Lily Salvatore would do everything in her power to protect her daughter from her husband, Giuseppe Salvatore, she had hoped to keep the fact that Cassie wasn't his daughter and that she had an affair with a werewolf a secret. When Lily died she made one of her maids promise to protect Cassie and to try their hardest to prevent her from breaking the werewolf curse not wanting her to feel the same pain her father had been through when he was forced to turn into a wolf every full moon.
At the age of 15, Cassie was attacked by one of the locals who lived in mystic falls and to protect herself she accidentally killed the man causing her to trigger her curse. It was also when, Giuseppe Salvatore, found out the truth and from then despised the blonde girl shipping her to New Orleans to live with her aunt.
Since then, Cassie had to deal with controlling her magic as well as her werewolf temper. The blonde wasn't like any other supernatural and could turn at will which made many people jealous and envious off her but also saw her as an abomination because in their eyes she was dangerous to the people in New Orleans and made the witches to form a plan to kill the blonde Salvatore girl once and for all.
Damon and Stefan on the other hand had no idea what their sister actually was, and only knew that she was turned into a vampire not long after aunt Kate's death. Cassie hated the fact she couldn't tell her brothers when she turned and went searching for her brothers but she knew it would put them in danger because of what she is.
The relationship between the Salvatore siblings is a complicated one, especially as Cassie did everything she could to distance herself from them but it never worked as the blonde was a breathe of fresh air her brothers needed and even after all this time she was still the sweetest and most caring girl they had grew up with until she was 15 and never saw her again until she 17.
Cassie had been informed her brothers were turned by Katherine Pierce, a vampire who was obsessed with her brothers when she arrived at Mystic Falls pretending to be an orphan girl but really just played with both of her brothers feelings, turning them against one another and even now Cassie could see the same thing happening with Elena Gilbert.
Stefan and Damon were the only family she had left, her mother died when she was four and she never knew her biological father but her aunt Kate had told her he died not that long after she arrived in New Orleans and it didn't take her long to figure out that Giuseppe Salvatore was behind it as he wanted vengeance because his wife was unfaithful.
And yet, while Cassie had been in California enjoying traveling the world she had gotten a call from her brother who needed her help to take down Kathrine once and for all. Which is why she was driving past the ' Welcome to Mystic Falls' sign making her way towards the Salvatore boarding house.
