➶︎ THE TRAIN RIDE !PLATFORM NINE AND THREE QUARTERS, albeit having been there for probably centuries, still managed to look wonderful and brand new each year. The red train going to Hogwarts stood in its usual glory, the noises of witches and muggles alike. Evangeline, despite having the motto she does every year—to finish her studies, have fun, and blend in with the rest—was probably not going to accomplish the last anytime soon. Because if being a Black with unknown powers of the late Leàttiea was not eye-catching enough, then having an old-fashioned engagement probably did it.
As the heiress moved to get into the train, many stared, looking at her in many different emotions. A few with respect. Others, however, stared with disgust and fear. It was something to get used to, really, as being a Black means to give up in a life with sunshines and daisies. Fathers sneered at her, though they were too scared to do anything, while mothers tell their children to not talk to her. Really, there was already no need to tell that, as the only people that even dared to talk to her civilly would be Purebloods and a few upper Slytherins.
As she went on board, she passed by a few compartments before finding the Slytherin compartment—basically a self-promoted compartment for her friends and her. Inside, Nott and Zabini were already arguing about something—a book, probably. Despite all of them being in the same general idea, Slytherins were better off with small social groups, hers being with Blaise and Theodore. Draco, despite being her cousin, was not in a friend group with her, but with Crabbe and Goyle—and maybe Parkinson.
"It's literally still the train ride, what could you both be possibly arguing?" Asked Evangeline as she locked the compartment, closing the curtains to stop and eavesdroppers.
"No 'hi Theodore, oh how I've missed you!' or something? I'm hurt, Evie. Truly. Now, locking the doors this early though, some might think we're having a three—"
Theodore let out a yelp as both Blaise and Evangeline hit him for his unnecessary comments, though it really wasn't unusual for him to say something of the sorts.
Rolling his eyes at his friend's antics, Blaise asked, wiggling his eyebrows "So, how's your life as an engaged couple?"
This seemed to fetus deletus the awkward mood as she put her feet on Theodore's lap, her face showing a calm expression .
"Merlin, really?"
"Oh come on, I have to! It's like, all everyone could talk about these days!"
Evie rolled her eyes, throwing her copy of the daily prophet at Zabini's face before removing her legs from Theo's lap.
"Stop being nosy, it's just like any other pureblood engagements. You know that."
"Yes yes, Ms. Soon-to-be Nott."
"Actually..." started Theodore, "I'm the one changing my last name."
There was a silence at first, before—
"WHAT?"
"And that's my cue to leave." Said Evangeline shortly, standing up.
"Wait a minute—"
"I have a prefects' meeting, so au revoir!" Evangeline exclaimed sarcastically, hurriedly leaving the compartment and leaving Nott in questioning to Zabini's curiosity.
"That girl!" exclaimed Zabini, but then he paused, "wait, she isn't even a prefect!"
