➶︎ SCAMANDER MANOR !ROLF SCAMANDER WAS A STRANGE GUY.
Blonde, tall, and lanky, the boy stood at an awkwardly towering height of 6'2, just a bit taller than Theodore though he was a year younger than the both of them. He was currently home alone in his family's vacation house near the outskirts of Paris, and as Theodore enters his house, he understands why Evie didn't really visit this guy often.
It was messy, to say the least. Tons and tons of pictures lay scattered around the walls, filled with magical creatures and animals. Pinned pages of notes lie next to most of these pictures, giving small tips and more. The sofa in the middle was rounded, and was probably the only neat thing in the house. On the far-right, a canvas filled with dead and dried insects lay hanging, and the scrunch in Theodore's nose shows their distaste for the particular preference in furniture.
"Scamander," he greeted with a nod, "how are you?"
"I'm well," he replied, but his eyes felt distanced despite the fact that he was looking directly at Theodore, "are you both here for the library?"
"Yes," replied Evangeline this time, her face showing no emotion towards the mess of the house she so distastes, "I'm sorry to bother."
"It's no worries," he says quickly, "It's far down and to the right, I'll be in the study if you need me."
There was no need to respond anymore. With a nod, Evangeline took Theodore's hand and went into the library in the hopes of searching for her answers.
FOUR HOURS HAD PASSED.
Not a single book spoke anything related to natural magic or whatnot. Theodore was tired, safe to say. He looks right, and still the heiress shows nothing but determination to uncover every little secret this library holds, no crook nor cranny left unturned. She must be tired too, he thinks, his eyes observing every minuscule detail on her face.
"Should we stop here and try again tomorrow?" He asks.
"No," She replied firmly, but it's in the small croak of her voice that Theodore notices her frustrated eyes, as if she's let herself down by not finding an old-age mystery no one but her mother had known.
He steps towards her and takes her hand on his own, putting the book in her hand away on the table.
"C'mon," he speaks softly, barely a whisper. His hands take some hair out of her face, and she looks away as if ashamed of the small budding tears forming in her eyes. He would be embarrassed too if he cried, but because it isn't him crying is nothing to be ashamed of. He holds her face gently, before placing a small peck on her forehead. She leans in his touch, her eyes closing. He could feel her eyelashes on his skin, it felt ticklish but he didn't laugh.
"We can do it again tomorrow. Let's rest and have some dinner, yeah? Enjoy the holidays." he suggests, but in truth it was more a statement than a suggestion. There's no answer to that, Evie realizes. It's final, his words are final.
Theodore takes her coat in his hands and put it on for her, and she lets him do so. In turn, she takes her arm to fix his loosely hanging tie.
He opens the door, putting his hand forward for her and only her to take, "Shall we?"
Evangeline says nothing, but she puts her hand on his in acceptance, which spoke volumes more than words will ever do for the young couple.
