3rd person pov:the sun glazed over the rooftops of the Encanto. The birds sung sweet Melodie's over the chatter that could be heard from below. The towns people are sweet- they greet each other good morning as they go about their day. Some purchased fruits and other foods to provide for their families. While, some waited for Julieta to come to town, so they could heal whatever cuts or scars they had. The children played, with such laughter and glee. The houses in town were colorful. The flowers and plants in town just as colorful. That day would be filled with hard work, as there would be a gift ceremony that night.....
Y/n's pov:
The sun shines through my open window. I felt the sun kiss my skin, warm as always. It tickled me awake. "Good morning..." I whispered to myself as I sat up. I wasn't in bed, I was sitting at my desk. Fuck... I feel asleep writing last night. I closed my journal and tucked it away as I organized my scattered pens and pencils.
"Y/N,,, come here please!"
I heard my mother call from downstairs.
"Sure, mami, one second..."
I went to the bathroom and washed my face with cold crisp water, in an attempt to wake myself. I pat my face dry, and began the hunt through my closet. I slipped into (outfit of your choice) and jumped into my shoes. I added many rings, necklaces, and bracelets to my outfit before I ran out my room and down the stairs.
"Good morning, Y/n." My mom says as she hears me enter the kitchen.
"Good morning Mami."
I say, placing a soft kiss on her cheek.
"I need a few things from the market, can you handle them for me please?" She spoke as she handed me a list.
"Sure."
I ate my breakfast and finished quickly, as I was eager to get outside.
"Thanks for the food mom." I said, placing my dish in the sink.
"Mhm. Be back in time for lunch." My mom said, as I walked away to leave the kitchen. I paused and turned around to face my mother.
"Mami, can I ask you something?"
My mom sighed, knowing what was coming. She put down the dish she was washing and wiped her hands.
"I'll think about it, mija."
"You didn't even let me speak!" I said, raising my hands in defense.
My mom turned to face me.
"You're going to ask if you can go to the gift ceremony tonight. Correct me if I'm wrong."
I grinned at her guilty.
"Oh come on.... I promise to behave! The whole town is going to be there. It's a great place for me to make some friends."
"I know mija... you know I think highly of the Madrigals. I even met your father at a gift ceremony. But..."
"But what?! Oh come on mom please... I've been really well behaved the past couple of weeks. I've done everything you've asked for. I don't understand what you're so afraid of..."
My mom sighed again. She walked over to me and gave me a big hug.
"Ok mija. You can go. As long as you promise me to be super careful! Be safe and trust your gut!"
My mom finally let me go of her deadly grasp.
"Ok mom, I will. Thank you! I'll be back soon.."
Excited, I grabbed my bag and waved goodbye to my mother before shutting the front door. I walked into town, as I received many kind greetings from the people around me. I smiled back in return.
"I still have plenty of time before lunch..." I whispered to myself
I decided to mindlessly roam around town before focusing on getting what my mother needed.
I loved hearing the chatter of the people in town. I don't know why, but it was sort of comforting. I heard children playing from a distance, but as I grew closer it started to sound like, singing? The voice brought me a wave of energy as it drew me closer. I smiled as I saw the source of the song. I didn't know her personally, but I knew her as one of the many Madrigals. Mirabel. Her curly hair bounced as she ran around singing to the kids. The familiar song was about her family. I couldn't help but let a smile grow on my face. Panic seemed to take over Mirabel when the kids started asking about her own gift. From what I've heard, Mirabel didn't get a gift. I felt bad for her, but she didn't seem bothered by it. She looked around for a place to hide, or simply escape the kids questioning her. I swiftly slipped into the door of an abandoned house as Mirabel turned a corner and started running in my direction. As she passed by the door of the abandoned house I hide in, I grabbed her by her arm and pulled her in.
" WOA-" "shhhhh"
I put my finger over her lips as we hide behind a wall of the abandoned home. The kids chatter from outside faded and I glanced out the door and saw them confused.
"She went this way!" "I'm telling you, she went through here!"
I chuckled and waited for the kids to run away.
"Wow, thank you.." I heard Mirabel say after some time. I turned to look at her.
"Yea of course."
"I've seen you before... in town?"
She wasn't certain of this.
"Yea... I'm often in town." This was true.
She smiled and scratched the back of her neck. "I'm... well you probably already know." With a soft chuckle.
"Yea... I'm Y/n." I said, holding out my hand. She shook it with joy. I've always loved the energy Mirabel has radiated.
"Y/n... such a pretty name!" Her expression dropped slightly, but she picked it up fast before it became noticeable.
"Shoot... I gotta head back home. Gift ceremony tonight! Lots to do..."
She started walking away, looking both ways to make sure no kid left behind would jump out and attack her with more questions. She turned to look back at me again.
"Hey... thanks again. I do have some time before I need to return home. It's not like there's much for me to do..." she shrugged. "You know, since I have no gift it gets hard for me to help without feeling like I'm in the way of my family's work."
I saw a glimpse of sadness in her eyes, but behind those sad clouds there was sun, ready to shine brightly.
"Do you need help with anything? As a way to return the favor." She asked
"Actually, yea, I have a couple of things I need to pick up from the market. I could use the company..." I said.
"Awesome! I'd love to keep you company." Mirabel said, sounding excited.
We walked around the market picking up whatever my mom needed, food and other essentials.
"And i also have two older sisters-" We were walking back to my home, and Mirabel wouldn't stop talking about her family.
"Hey Mirabel, why don't you stay for lunch?" I suggested as we reached my front door.
"Oh... no I shouldn't I don't wanna intrude-"
"No, please, if anything my mom and I would love the company." I smiled kindly in hopes she would stay.
"Sure, why not!"
