"Get your fat butt off of me!" I screamed at Jake. He had just gotten out of our (freezing cold) pool and straddled my lap.
"Only if you give me a kiss," He puckered his lips.
"Stand up first," I smiled innocently. I stood up after him and said, "Close your eyes..."
I grabbed a handful of chips and shoved them in his mouth, "Surprise!"
I ran away from him, cackling like a maniac. He face was bright red as he chased after me, but my thin legs carried me quicker than him.
"Dinner!" Mom called and everyone went inside but us. I was still running around in the back yard in the grass, trying to get away from Jake.
I was in the garden now, and I looked behind me, seeing he wasn't anywhere in sight. Suddenly, I tripped over a rock and fell.
"Oww!" I screeched and Jake came running in with a worried expression.
"Are you okay!?" He exclaimed, kneeling by my side.
"Yeah I just scraped my knee and it hurts," I said, scrunching up my nose.
"Well we can fix that," He said, and scooped me up bridal style. He carried me up to the deck, sat me in a lawn chair, and took care of my scrape before we went in to eat dinner. Steak, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, watermelon, lots of dessert and of course, pizza.
After we ate, both of our families went into the basement and started our double family game night/cookout that we take turns hosting every saturday. Which means fridays were always date nights for the parents. Date nights for Jake and I -- those were spurratically decided by him.
Lucas had his 'friend' Julia over, and Elizabeth was texting her new boyfriend Aaron, so they had basically forgotten about each other and everything that happened. Mary and Marcus still hated each other, but she was happy with Drew. Kathryn and David on the other hand, were terrified of each other, claiming that the other had cooties. Kids, right?
"Hello? Talia? It's your turn!" Jake waved his hand in my face.
"Oh! Sorry guys.." I laughed. Everyone shook their heads and I took my turn in monopoly. This is gonna take a while...
*THREE HOURS LATER*
"Longest game of monopoly ever," I groan as I curl up with Jake on my bed.
"Tell me about it," He yawns, "I still think you cheated," He whispered and I rolled my eyes.
"You wish," I whispered back and he smiled.
He kissed me full on the lips. It was passionate yet gentle, rough yet light, less but more. It was the perfect kiss. I frowned when he pulled apart.
I laid my head back down on his chest. As I drifted off to sleep I heard him whisper something that made me the happiest girl in the world, "I love you, Talia Johnson. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me."
I smiled, and curled up even closer to him. He was the love of my life.
It's been four years since that night, and we're married now. I'm pregnant with our first child, and we couldn't be happier. We're both graduates from UCLA, I'm a vet and Jake is a successful lawyer. We couldn't be any happier together.
I'm looking through old photos when I see one of us when we were just friends. I smiled and said, "Boy, does time fly."
THE END.
