It was 7:30 AM in Bangalore, India. Sahana and Nynesha Jha, 12-year-old identical twin sisters, were on their way to school.
"Nynee! Wait for me!" Sahana called out to her sister as she ran, who was a few feet ahead of her. Sahana's thick, waist-length brown hair whipped behind her, and her olive skin was dotted with beads of sweat. Sahana gasped for breath- she couldn't keep up with her athletic twin.
"Saahu, don't be a slow-poke! We're going to be late; we were supposed to be at school early today- you know we have to make a presentation in front of the entire grade!" Nynesha replied as she jogged effortlessly round the corner.
However, when she didn't hear her sister's reply, she turned back to find Sahana nowhere nearby. Puzzled, Nynesha turned around and walked around the corner.
She found Sahana clutching a stitch in her side, trying to catch her breath in a deserted side street.
Nynesha was about to talk to Sahana on the dangers of leaving her side, but before Nynesha could begin, a portal opened up below their feet, and swallowed the twins up before they could scream.

A cool breeze blew through the streets of Tokyo, Japan. It was 11 in the morning, and today was a school holiday- it was hastily decided that the campus would get some much-needed repairs.
Since it was all so sudden, 13-year-old Kairi Kishi had no idea what she would do today- she always planned out her week, and had a strict schedule for as long as she could remember.
She had her black hair up in space buns as she cycled through the city aimlessly, listening to some of her favorite tunes. She knew better than to go down the dark alleyways, so she sticked to the bright, main streets.
However, there were barely any people around, as most of them were either at school, or at work. Just as she rounded a bend, her bicycle wheel ran over a pebble, and she lost her balance.
Kairi saw a bright light, and then she fell, and fell, she never seemed to hit the ground. When she finally did, she was unconscious. If she were awake, she would have realized she was definitely not on Earth.

The full moon shone over Paris, through the window of a grand mansion. The curtains were pulled shut, yet there was a small gap, through which the moonlight peeked through.
10-year-old Annette Richard couldn't sleep. She tossed and turned, yet slumber did not come to her. Finally, she opened her blue eyes and got up, wide awake. The clock read 3:00 AM.
She pulled a brush through her thigh-length silky blonde hair, braided it with care, and slipped into her satin dressing gown, tip-toeing down the marble staircase.
Being sure not to wake the cook, she slipped out of the back door and into the neatly manicured gardens. The back gate creaked a bit as she opened it, but after a quick look around, Annette decided no one woke up to the sound.
After a walk down a deserted path, the scenery shifted from that of an urban metropolis to a quiet, and beautiful forest. It wasn't actually a forest, but the Richards' mansion's back gate opened up into a nature park, which was close enough for Annette.
She inhaled the sweet floral smell mixed with the earthly petrichor. She sighed- the woods were her escape, she found solace here, she may not have any human friends, but the animals in the nature park were better anyway.
"I know I'm not supposed to be out this late," she began in a low voice talking to the rabbit beside her, "but I just couldn't sleep."
"Besides, it's not like a magical portal to another world is going to open up at this very moment, and transport me to another galaxy!" she said with a laugh. Just as she said it, a magical portal to another world opened up and transported her to another galaxy.
