4. Doubt

-What the fuck do you want from me?! , I yelled at him, slamming his back into the wall.

-

-ANSWER ME

He just kept on looking down and I finally realized he was crying, ridiculous. I slightly let go of my grip but he still had no reaction, his body simply started gliding down the wall and he ended up sitting on the floor, arms around his legs, crying and shaking.

-What the fuck? Do you even understand what I'm saying?! , I asked, although I heard him talk in class and knew he spoke good English.

- y-yes...

-Then answer me. I pulled out a knife from inside my shoe.

-P-please don't hurt me! You can kill me but please, please... , I heard his breathing start shaking even more as he was panicking.

At that moment I couldn't help but doubt myself a little, seeing his reaction and the look in his eyes, I didn't want to but I recognized myself in him at that moment, begging for me not to hurt him. After calculating the actual threat he was posing at that moment, I kneeled down in front of him, lowering my voice but keeping the knife in front of me.

-Im not gonna kill you dumbass, I chuckled. That wouldn't get us anywhere would it? Just answer me now, what do you want from me.

-What do you even mean?! You- you're the one who brought me in here and-and...

-Don't try to act stupid, I said, getting angry. You were staring at me this morning, I know you know who I am. Now, do you work for Arthur? Or Dino? Answer me.

The look of pure confusion in his face seemed so genuine. Am I getting worked up for nothing, I'm so used to being suspicious of everyone around me but this kid really looked innocent, but then why was he observing me like that, and why would he follow me all the way here.

-I swear I don't know what you're talking about I swear to god please just let me go, he begged and cried.

I got up and opened the closet door, staying in the frame so he couldn't run off.

"Hey Shorter! Come here and watch him a moment I'm going to call skipper." I told my friend who was still waiting for me in the hallway.
When they got closer, I also whispered in his ear, so that Japanese Boy wouldn't hear, : "talk to him and tell me what you think please." He nodded in agreement and closed the door behind him while I took out my cellphone.

(Over the phone)
-Ash? Are you alright??

-Yeah skip don't worry, I just need a quick favour from you.

-Go ahead, he said happily.

-Do you know if we're still good with Arthur's gang and Dino?

-I haven't heard anything about them, are you still worried they're coming after you?

-Not sure... um also could you do a background check on this guy, Eiji Okumura, and call me back as soon as possible.

-No problem boss anything else?

-Not for now thanks skip, you're of huge help.

We ended the call and I got back into the janitors closet where Shorter was literally comforting the smaller boy, I rolled my eyes and sighed in worry. I was worried the paranoia was getting to me, maybe all I'd been trough was finally clouding my judgment...

I apologized to Shorter and Okumura, still not convinced I could trust him but after all, I had no evidence against him whatsoever. I quickly explained the phone call to Shorter as they were patting the back of the small boy who seemed to have regained a normal breathing, the tears had stopped.

-What do you have against him anyway, you just met him, Shorter asked me like Eiji wasn't even there.

-He kept staring at me in class...

-That's cause you're cute, stupid ash.

The raven then jumped a little and started to blush heavily.

Eiji's POV

I felt my whole face get hot, I tried my best to cover it but is was no use, Shorter started laughing at the top of his lungs. How could they talk so cheerfully after what just happened, I have never been scared like this before and I don't even understand how it started, and even less why it ended like that.

I think the two could feel my confusion because Ash then turned to me and started talking.

"I guess you deserve some kind of explanation... Of you really don't know who I am well I'm a gang leader." I'm guessing he was expecting some kind of reaction but I had already figured that much, or at least I wasn't surprised. "And I have had some problems with the mafia and lately one of my old guy sided with them and well that's why I have to be extra careful." He finished.

-Why do you trust me so much? Telling me all of this.

-It's not that I trust you, but if you were really spying on me and didn't know any of this then you would be one lousy spy, he started laughing.

A few minutes ago this guy was pointing a knife at me while I was begging for my life but somehow, hearing him laugh like that, made me forget everything. He looked so tense and worried before but at that moment, he just looked like a normal kid. He catches me staring and I was brought back to reality.

-GOMEN—I mean sorry, i quickly spoke, lowering my gaze.

-Ash! Stop scaring him you dumbass.

I was so scared he would snap at me again but lucky for me his phone rand at this moment, he answered and I couldn't hear the person on the other side but the blonde kept nodding and finally thanked them, he sounded relieved.

-Seems you're all clear, I'm really sorry for the bother Eiji,
he said as he got up and then lend me his hand to help me get up as well, I carefully took it, still looking down, and as soon as I was up I saw him walk out.

-Sorry, he's always like that, Shorter told me. He then took my phone and put his contact info, telling me to text him if I needed, before running back to his friend.

Time skip to after school

As I waited for my bus my mind just kept going back to the events of this morning, I had gotten scared to death but still, something in me wanted to talk to those two again, they were so intriguing, but mostly ash. I then remembered the moment just before he started yelling at me. We almost kissed!!! That was probably nothing for him but- THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN MY FIRST KISS OMG!? Just by thinking about it I could feel myself get flustered all over again, I chased the thoughts and put some music instead.

As soon as I got home I collapsed on my bed, completely exhausted from all the emotions and as I drifted to sleep I had only one thought.
