12th July 1975
Lily had woken Hermione up annoyingly early that morning - it was a Saturday in the middle of the summer for Merlin's sake - eager for their shopping trip into Muggle London. Hermes had let out a disturbed yowl when Lily flopped onto her bed beside Hermione, jumping to the floor and sauntering out the room with his tail held high in the air. The two girls had snickered at the part-Kneazle, then both got up and quickly got ready.
Their excitement was palpable as Lily instructed Hermione on the best clothes to wear for their excursion. Hermione had yet to get used to the Muggle fashions of the time, despite having been in the seventies for nearly five years - she spent most of her time dressed in her school uniform, or robes at home. When she did wear current Muggle fashions, it was almost always an outfit put together for her at the insistence of Dorcas or Lily, and rarely Alice, who had just as little experience with Muggle clothes as her, but at least had a lot more fashion sense.
They ate a quick breakfast with only Geraint for company. The twins were not yet up, and Iphemia was away at the Weasley's for a week. As they rose to leave the table Geraint cleared his throat, "Girls, I'm unfortunately busy today so I won't be able to accompany you into London."
Hermione's shoulders slumped, and her and Lily shared a sad look - there was no way Hermione's parents would let the two go into busy Muggle London by themselves, even if they were fifteen. "Does that mean we can't go, dad?"
"Of course not, love." Geraint smiled at the happy expressions on their faces, "Your brothers are both of age, even if they neglect to act that way sometimes, so they can accompany you."
"Fab and Gid?" Hermione's eyes widened, and she sent Lily a mildly horrified look, "But dad, they'll be insufferable for a whole day!"
"I'm sure you'll deal with them, love." Geraint just chuckled, and waved his hand carelessly, "I don't think they've woken up yet, so why don't you go wake them up so they can get ready."
Hermione sighed and acquiesced. It was Fabian and Gideon going with them, or not going into London at all, so she knew which she'd choose. She and Lily headed back upstairs, Lily bouncing excitedly as she headed off to the room she'd stayed in every time she'd visited so far to collect her bag and a hat to wear for the hot day.
Hermione made her way to the twins' rooms, and knocked loudly on Fabian's door. When there was no answer she just pushed the door open and stormed noisily into the room, knowing she was acting a little irrationally, but carrying on anyway. To her surprise, both her brothers were asleep in Fabian's large bed. It shouldn't shock her, they were very close and sometimes didn't want to sleep apart - even now they were of age. The need for closeness wasn't uncommon in Magical twins. They were not only linked in the same mysterious and unexplained ways that Muggle twins were, but by their magical cores too; their magic was so intrinsically bound to each other's that it was the main reason most Magical twins usually ended up with the same partner in a triad relationship.
When neither boy woke at her loud stomping she grinned a little, and stepped far back from the bed. She then cast a wide-disperse Aguamenti she'd been taught by an amused Tonks during the summer spent at Grimmauld in 1995, and laughed loudly at the swearing and shouting as they woke to being drenched.
"Morning." She piped up cheerfully, "You two are escorting me and Lily into Muggle London for shopping today. Be downstairs in half an hour." She practically skipped out of the room, feeling a lot better, as both Fabian and Gideon gaped, betrayed, after her.
