A/N: THIS FIC IS FINISHED (not with this chapter, don't worry!). I have finally finished writing the main story HOLY SHIT! Updates will now be weekly (maybe bi-weekly depending on how fast I edit haha!)
**AS OF 18th April 2022** If you haven't already PLEASE go back and re-read the first 32 chapters, a lot has been updated and edited, and there are definitely some significant changes to parts of the story.
From here on out all the chapters will have been written and edited (and checked by my beta UnderstandableGoodDay) so there won't be any further significant re-reads that you'll need to do! Unless you want to of course, in which case, don't let me stop you.
Also! I have published the first of 10 missing/extra scenes. It's the duel between Sirius, Hermione and Mulciber mentioned in ch26. It's up on my profile titled OLT Missing Scenes. Keep an eye on that for further scenes that didn't fit in the main story.
15th October 1976
Hermione had owled Severus yesterday, asking if they could meet today. She'd used one of the school owls to be inconspicuous and had only given the bare bones so that if someone read the missive they wouldn't know what it meant unless they were Severus.
She had snuck into the boys' dormitory earlier and pilfered James' cloak from his trunk, hoping he wouldn't notice it missing before she had a chance to return it. She stood under it now, waiting outside the Room of Requirement. She heard footsteps approaching just before Severus turned the corner into the corridor, frowning when he didn't see her there.
She quickly pulled off the cloak, smirking a little at Severus' surprise at her sudden appearance. "Prewett." He greeted, sounding bored, "Where's this room then?"
She strolled over, and started pacing back and forth in front of the blank wall, focusing her thoughts. I need somewhere comfortable to meet with Severus. A door appeared suddenly after the third pass, looking as though it had always been there in the wall. Severus blinked, and raised a black eyebrow, but didn't say anything as he followed her through the door.
The room was small, two large comfortable looking armchairs placed in front of a large marble fireplace that dominated one of the walls. A small table sat between the two chairs, empty. Hermione wished the room wasn't subject to Gamp's laws and she could get some food.
Severus' dark eyes scanned the room as he took one of the seats. Hermione took the other next to him and watched him quietly.
"Well?" Severus was the one to break the silence surprisingly, "What's your plan?"
She sighed and thought, ruffling her curls as she did so, "We need to destroy his Horcruxes."
Severus blinked a couple of times, clearly mildly surprised Voldemort had more than the one Horcrux he'd assumed. "Yes, thank you, Prewett. I'd gotten that much. How?"
"I know two ways to destroy them, and I've got one way already."
"Do you know what they are?" Severus asked sceptically, not looking confident in Hermione's knowledge. "Or where to find them?"
"I think so, yes."
Severus raised an eyebrow when she didn't elaborate, "Are you not going to tell me?"
"As much as I do trust you, Severus. I don't think it's wise to tell you everything now." She looked away, mad at herself for taking a step further in Dumbledore's manipulative shoes every day.
Severus scoffed, but didn't argue the point, though he did say, "At some point I'd like to know more specifics for why I am doing what I'm doing."
"You will. I promise." She insisted.
