Rebecca: PASS IT DUMMY!!!
Erik: What?
Rebecca: MY STUPID BALL! IT GOT STUCK IN YOUR YARD! PASS IT!
Erik: But I can't throw the ball that far!
Rebecca walks over to me and then hits me on the arm.
Rebecca: You're cute.
Erik: Wait-what?
Rebecca: We should be friends. Then one day, surprise me. Show me if you love me. We will be best friends forever, ok? FOREVER!
Erik: Forever... Sure. Why not?
And that's how it happened. Over the years, she had forgotten about that moment but I have held on to that moment dearly.
I hear a knock at the door and then I run over to quickly open it. It's Rebecca. But there's something strange about her. She's in her underwear and an oversized t-shirt. She was brushing her teeth and she looked at me with a weird face.
Rebecca: What? Is there something on my face or something?
I didn't notice until she pointed it out but I was drooling a little bit. I was already dressed.
Rebecca: Well, anyway, I just came to make sure you were awake.
She left and went back to her house that was right next to mine. My parents go to work at 5 am and I'm left alone all morning. Good thing they weren't here to see this. I closed my door and melted onto the floor.
I grabbed my backpack and fixed my messed up hair. I then opened the door to see Rebecca again. But this time, she was all ready. Her knotted hair was smooth and tangle-less. She was wearing a light blue crop top and high-waisted short shorts and bright yellow sandals. She looked gorgeous.
Rebecca: Ready to go to the park, or what?
Erik: Yeah, sure just let me get something really quick.
She walked inside and I didn't stop her.
Rebecca: God, you're so neat.
I didn't say anything and went to the fridge and got a basket with a whole bunch of sandwiches and some fruit.
Rebecca: Oh, sweet! You made food!
Erik: Yeah. Only a little, though.
Rebecca: Please say those are your famous pepperoni and cheddar sandwiches!
Erik: Yep!
I couldn't get that one thing she said. We were 8. Some day, surprise me. Show me you love me. It was going around and around in my head.
We left the house and walked to the park that was only a few blocks away. I looked into her eyes. They were light blue-ish. More like hazel. I couldn't get over how pretty she is. I looked at her figure, trying to figure out how it is humanly possible to maintain it. She doesn't do anything but play baseball. Not even softball. Baseball. She's a tomboy type but sometimes her girly side comes out. Most of the time it's around me when we're alone. Like today. We're pretty much going on a date. She's wearing barely nothing and actually decided not to wear a baseball cap today. Her hair was silky and soft and even though we've been walking in windy conditions, there is not a single misplacement in her hair.
Rebecca: What are you looking at?
She looked into my eyes with a strange look on her face. She was almost smiling but it looked like she was trying not to.
Erik: Your hair.
She has dark brown hair. It's long, too. My hair is red-ish blonde and it's because I dyed it. My hair used to be dark brown also. She actually dyed my hair. She liked playing with my hair.
Rebecca: You look cute today.
She said it so quietly, I could barely hear her. My cheeks turned rosy red and I'm not sure if she noticed or not. She didn't want to make eye contact.
The sun was going down. The sunset was beautiful but she was prettier.
Rebecca: Sorry. But it's been a long time. I need you to tell me now.
She remembered. She's talking about that!
Erik: Do you mean-
Rebecca: Yes. When we were kids.
By now, my cheeks are probably tomato red.
Erik: I love you! I love you so much, you don't even know! I didn't know if you remebered or not but I was worried my entire life! You're the prettiest girl I know and just thinking about you just makes me want to finally feel your touch. I really didn't know if you-
My rambling was broken by something I was never expecting. A kiss.
