I started to see white fighting the darkness. I regained consiousness and looked at the bed next me. Rebecca was sitting there on the bed. She wasn't in hospital clothes. She was in the same purple sweatshirt and shorts she wore from the picnic.
Erik: Is she-
Rebecca: I don't know. They took her to the OR immediatly. What happened?
Erik: Ask your mom. She's the one that called your house and told us to go there.
Rebecca: She doesn't know anything. I asked her. She's out getting coffee but she came by earlier.
Erik: What time is it?
I got up and pulled the hospital bed sheets off of my warm legs. I saw I was in the same clothes I was wearing, too. I sat up and walked over to Rebecca and sat next to her. I hugged her. She had tears in her eyes.
Rebecca: I don't want this to happen. What even is happening?
Erik: I don't know. I'm just glad you're here with me. I love you.
Rebecca: I love you too.
I pecked her on the lips and stopped hugging her. We talked for a while about how hungry we were and then we got up and started walking towards the cafeteria. A nurse stopped us in the hallway.
Nurse: Wilson?
Erik: Yes.
Nurse: We have news about your mother.
I gulped and then walked back to the room we were in and sat down on the beds. The nurse sat down on an office chair and rolled over to us. She had some papers in her hands.
Nurse: Here. I'm gonna need you to fill these out about how this happened.
Erik: We don't know anything. Her mother's the one to ask.
I pointed over to Rebecca.
Rebecca: Good luck. Mrs. Wilson didn't tell her anything. She told me that Mrs. Wilson said to call 911 and then call me to come over and help.
Nurse: Okay, well I don't know what to think about this. There wasn't a gun near your house or her or anything. Nothing was stolen.
Erik: You mean you searched my house?!
I yelled in anger. I didn't want anyone in my house without permission.
Nurse: Calm down. We have the authority to. It's a crime scene. Someone was shot there. We need to investigate it. Would you want to find your mother's killer?
Erik: KILLER?!!?!? WHAT????!!!!
At this point, I was screaming. I didn't know what was going on. I couldn't help but start crying. My mother was my closest friend other than Rebecca. I love her! I can't lose her.
Nurse: Sorry, that came out wrong. Your mothers shooter. Which brings me to another note, your mother's fine.
Erik: Oh, thank god!
I didn't realize I was standing up. I sat down on the bed and Rebecca was trying to calm me down. Something about her comforting voice.
Rebecca: It's gonna be okay.
Nurse: Her surgery was a success. For now, at least. We just need to keep her just in case something happens. She was shot in her stomach but the bullets didn't hit any organs. The bullets shot her in the lower ribs and they disconnected completely, so we had to get that all taken care of. We don't know how long we'll have to keep her, though. She'll also have to go through physical therepy and maybe another surgery. We're not sure. This is a very risky process. One wrong move and-
Erik: Don't tell me what might happen to her. She means everything to me and I love her with all my heart.
Rebecca was holding on my hand tightly and wasn't saying much. I looked over at her and she had her head in my shoulder.
Erik: Where's my dad?
Nurse: We don't know.
Erik: I hope nothing happened to him.
