I wake up to bright lights and I know it's the same hospital my mom is in. I looked around the room and I see a vase with flowers in it on the table next to the hospital bed I was laying in. There was a card neatly placed in the front of the flowers. I picked it up.

Card: I'm okay. And also, I love you so very much and I was very worried about you when you were gone. Where is Rebecca? Is she doing okay? Anyway, come see me in room 3-14

Rebecca. Where was Rebecca? Oh my god! What if something were to happen to her? I have to find her! I pull the sheets off of me and I see that the bottom of my leg is gone. I screamed and the nurses came running in.

Nurse: Is everything okay? What happened? Why were you screaming?!?

Erik: Where's my leg?!?!?

Nurse: Oh, sorry. The gun shots detached your bone and tore off half of your leg. But don't worry, We're gonna start physical therapy for your mom tomorrow and we scheduled for you to have it with her. You've been out for a couple of days. Oh, and your skull is fine. You have some stitches in your head. And we checked, no brain damage!

Erik: Can I see my mom... like now?

Nurse: Hmm... I don't know. I'll go ask the doctor if we can get you in a wheelchair.

The nurse walks out of the room and I wait. I look over at the flowers again. They are blue, my favorite color. I don't know what kind because I don't really know many types of flowers. The nurse comes back a few minutes later with a wheel chair.

Nurse: He said yes. Oh, and I'm Nurse Jane and your doctor's name is Dr. Drew.

I nod my head. She helps me up into the wheelchair and we start rolling towards my mother's room.

Erik: So how'd she get those flowers in there?

Nurse: I brought them. She gave me money and I ran down to the flower shop down the street and bought them for her. She gave me specific flowers. Something light blue. Like a Spring Starflower.

So that's what they were. I remember walking in the forest with my mom on my seventh birthday. I remember finding them and she pointed out that they were my favorite color. She remembered.

We arrive at my mom's room and her face lights up as soon as we walk through the door.

Mom: You're here!!!! Oh, how I missed you!

Erik: I'm okay, mom. Everything is okay.

Mom: So what happened?

I pause. I try to think about what actually did happen. Dad. He shot both of us. He almost killed you and cost me my leg.

Erik: Dad.

I should have thought about that. Telling her right away.

Mom: Yeah, where has he been? I haven't seen him.

Erik: He shot you. Then tried to steal me and run away. Then he shot me.

The look on my mom's face. It was a terrified, sad kind of look. Then her face kind of went blank and she flopped back on her bed.

Erik: MOM!!
