it had been a few days since the whole shitty date incident as well as meeting peter.

speaking of peter, she hadn't heard from him since. it wasn't that she was desperate to hear from him. wasn't like her date ended up being with him, right?

yes it would have been nice to of heard from him, but she had no right to be upset over it. he was just some guy who helped her out when she was in a sticky situation.

she groaned and went back to her stupid painting that took up the majority of her tiny little apartment. it was on social commentary which wasn't hard considering everything happening in the world, but it was because she kept coming back to the people harassing them because it happens far too often.

after a few hours of painting her phone chimed. she glanced over at it, not wanting to touch it in case she got paint on it.

unknown number
Hey, (y/n), it's Peter Parker from the other night. Sorry I haven't messaged you yet.
-

she instantly smiled. he wasn't
ghosting her like her stupid tinder date, who maybe was doing a good thing because she met peter. she decided to paint for a little longer and at least finish the thin base coat before replying.

(y/n)
hey! it's good to hear from u :)
-

she debated the idea of saying she missed him or that she had to pay him back from the uber. a stupid student visa means she can't work, making it hard to stay afloat. especially considering she's in fucking new york city.

her phone chimed again distracting her from her internal rant.

she rolled her eyes.

(y/n)

i still gotta repay u for ur help the other night. :)

peter <3
How about we get coffee?
-

she was doing a mental checklist of everything she had to spend money on this month and how much she should be spending. well, worst comes to worst commissions are always a thing.

(y/n)

she couldn't help but smile at her phone as some love struck teenager. sure it wasn't a date or anything and it was purely just two people hanging out so she could repay him for an uber, but it still made her smile.

it was 9:30 when she woke up. she'd pulled an all nighter to try and get a head start on her painting and when she'd finally gone to sleep it was 4 in the morning. mentally cursing herself for not setting an alarm she rushed to shower and get ready as well as make sure she had everything she needed for her class.

she managed to look presentable and make it outside by 9:59. much to her disappointment peter wasn't there yet. she glanced at her phone for a text from him that she might have missed. nothing. at 10:05 when she was about to give up and go back to her apartment he arrived.

he was disheveled and sweaty from his obvious run there. he was wearing a jumper and jeans and she couldn't help but notice a flash of red under the collar of his shirt.

he grinned at her. he was even prettier in the daylight.

"i'm so sorry i'm late. i got caught up," he trailed off.

"it's ok, i'm glad you made it. i was about to give up and go back inside."

"sorry i should have texted." she smiled at him.

"i said it's ok. now where's this place?"

"a block from here. i used to go a lot when i was in college."

"lead the way."

unlike the other night he kept his distance. they talked about what the two of them had been up to since the first time they met. (y/n) couldn't help but smile around him and he made her laugh more than she had for a while.

his brown eyes had a dullness to them that made her wonder who he was and what he'd been through. they drew her in and made her want to learn more about him.

the coffee place was under an apartment building and was small and not at all what she had expected.

"this is our stop." he held the door open for her. "do you know what you want to drink?"

"get me whatever you're having." he nodded and left her to pick a table.

conversation with peter came easily. he grumbled jokingly when she asked to repay him and said her friendship was enough. (y/n) was half mad and half glad he said that. sure it was good to have a friend but she couldn't help but feel guilty that he wouldn't accept her money.

"what have you been up to since i saw you last?" she smiled at him and took a sip of her steaming coffee. man, this guy has good taste.

"saving the world. the usual." he joked.

"oh of course! what else." she rolled her eyes.

"have you heard of spider-man?"

"yeah! even back home theres people who are obsessed with him."

"my boss wants me to try and get photos of him for an article in the paper."

"i have to admit, i didn't know people still read the paper." he laughed.

"i wish he would say that." he groaned jokingly.

"did you always want to be a photographer?"

"no, it was just a hobby. i wanted to work on genetic engineering but something came up."

"i'm sure you're on the right path," she smiled at him. "it just wasn't meant to be."

"i guess so." he returned her smile.

her phone broke the moment. an alarm was going off. she scrambled up and gathered up her belongings.

"i'm so sorry i have to leave for class or i'm going to be late! where did all the time go?"

he stood up to help her. she looked at her phone again. 20 minutes to get to the campus.

"i can walk you if you want?"

"no it's ok, i know my way. thank you, peter." she gave him a rather awkward one armed hug. "i'll text you, bye!"

she looked down at her phone as she hurried along the side walk to the subway. she wasn't going to be too late and it would be her first time. hopefully her professor wouldn't be too mad.
