you were down to the last two months of living in new york. it was more fun when you left yourself go out with friends and actually connect to people.

most of your nights were spent studying or going out with the few people you'd gotten along with in your classes. peter was a not so distant memory. you wanted him gone but it doesn't always work that way.

many sleepless nights were spent dreaming about him and how he felt wrapped around you.

no matter how bad you tried to ignore the lingering memories you had with him, you couldn't. he was like a drug, even in your memories he was.

your friends, casey and june, who'd you'd painstakingly told about peter were deadset on you finding a new fling. you'd tried to reason with them, saying you only had a few months left here. even so, they were set on finding you someone new.

so here you are. sitting on a couch at some random house party with them. the host was blaring horrible techno music with flashing lights and people who stunk of sweat and alcohol.

"i've told you, there's not going to be anyone here." you frowned at the couple across from you.

"stop being so negative. we will find you someone." june smiled, her arm around casey.

"you're only saying that so i can double date with you. besides, half the people here are drunk and probably unironically like this music." the small cup of spiked punch they'd made you grab was sitting untouched in front of you.

"maybe. but it also sucks seeing you so down all the time." casey smiled.

"yeah! you knew the guy for what? two months?"

"you guys started dating after a week."

casey and june were not what you were expecting when you first met them. at first they seems like best friends but it quickly became obvious they were dating. you were hesitant to hang out with them, not wanting to third wheel all the time. turns out you were very much correct. the two could hardly keep their hands off each other. june always had her hands in casey's hair. or their face. or their ass.

they were cute together, obviously meant for each other. no matter how hard you tried to feel happy for them, it made you jealous. you wanted what they had. especially if it was with peter.

you'd gotten to a point where you were seeing him everywhere. it was never him but you wished it was. wished you could run up to him and hug him like you'd wanted to for months.

"dude, you good?" casey was staring at you with a worried look look on their face.

"yeah. just thinking." you forced a smile and took a sip of your drink.

"it better not be about him." june laughed and leaned into casey's chest.

"u guys suck. i'm going for a walk." you stuck your tongue out at them and walked off.

it was a bad idea to venture further into the house. the place was full of sweaty bodies grinding on people and men who thought they were invincible after a single drink.

the short dress you were wearing was feeling shorter than it was when you left home. your head was pounding from the music and the stench.
