MAIKO.
"What do you mean you joined the Host Club?" I laughed at Haruhi, not believing a word they said. "Didn't you call them the 'lamest club at Ouran' just yesterday?" I quoted their previous words.
Haruhi rolled their eyes at my mimicking and made a move to shove me. "Irrelevant," they huffed, leaning forwards as they rested their head on the wooden desk. "I might have accidentally broken a vase..?" It sounded more like a question than a statement.
My eyebrows flew up at this, immediately stifling my laughter. "You.. you what?" I pursed my lips as embarrassment quickly flooded their features. "How did you manage— wait, why were you in there in the first place?"
"I went in the wrong room!" they groaned, running a hand through their hair. "And the king or whatever, you know him, right? Tamaki Suoh?" They waited expectantly for a response.
I shrugged: "Barely," I replied. "I've heard girls talking about him, very frequently actually. But that's about it."
Haruhi hummed. "Well I, for one, don't see the appeal at all. He was... ugh, what's the word? There's definitely a word that describes people like him, I'm just blanking on it..." they trailed off, squinting as they looked off into the distance while struggling to find the proper word.
I've never encountered Suoh myself, but I've definitely heard his name all around the school. All the girls were practically fawning over him, even the upper years. Everyone in the Host Club was extremely popular at Ouran, but I've only met the Hitachiin twins. Their mom was friends with mine and I've known them since middle school, but to say they were the same people back then would be a gigantic lie. The Host Club had definitely changed them — and not necessarily in a bad way, either. They were almost more approachable now.
Back when I would see them when they were younger, the duo would sit alone in the corner, talking to no one but themselves. It was a drastic change to see them engage in conversation with nearly everyone now.
However, even my knowledge on the Hitachiin twins were limited. I didn't have many friends; I was practically alone until I met Haruhi. But I didn't mind that at all.
Some part of me is a bit hesitant on the idea of Haruhi being in the Host Club. Would they grow to love it there and suddenly spend all their time in the silly little music room? I was used to being alone, but being friends with Haruhi proved that one person really can change your life. I presumed I would end up back at the loner tables during lunch.
"Obnoxious!" Haruhi snapped their fingers, spinning back to face me. The look on their face indicated that a light bulb was lit up in their head. "He's obnoxious, that's the word." They leaned back in their chair obviously feeling accomplished with finally finding the appropriate word.
My lips quirked up. "Really? Obnoxious?" They nodded.
They opened their mouth to respond when two random, yet very similar voices were heard extremely nearby.
