MAIKO.
I was more than confused when Haruhi and I walked into the Host Club; it was some topical paradise instead of the regular music room. "What's all this? Isn't it still early spring?" Haruhi voiced their confusion as we approached the boys. I took a look around at the extraordinary view. I had to admit, it was much nicer than being in the regular stuffy room.
"We're having a bit of relaxation before our party next week," Tamaki came out of literally nowhere, wrapping an arm around my shoulders. I rolled my eyes and plucked it off, making a move to stand closer to Haruhi than him. Hopefully he would get the hint.
"A party?" Haruhi raised a brow.
"We're having a formal party, Haru-chan!" Honey-senpai cheered. He turned to me afterwards, "Oh, Maiko-chan! Some guy was asking for you earlier. I think they thought you were a host."
"Me?" I pointed to myself in surprise.
"Huh, I guess you're both naturals," Kyoya hummed as he continued typing away on his laptop. "Guess we got lucky with that. Maybe this will help widen our demographic within the school."
Tamaki let out an ear-piercing scream as he pulled me near. I realized over the past couple of days that he was very touchy. I wasn't sure what that had to do with me though, since it seemed that it wasn't quite the same with everyone else. Even Haruhi had commented on it multiple times, yet was unable to find the root of the cause.
He seemed conflicted as he spoke, pointing a finger towards Kyoya-san. "Maiko is not a host, she cannot go talk to that boy!" He declared.
I didn't understand why he was so upset. "Why not?" I voiced out curiously, looking up at him with a look of expectancy. He stared down at me and then suddenly quietened. His mouth was open, but no words seemed to come out. I huffed in annoyance and wiggled out of his hold, walking in the direction Honey-senpai had pointed me to earlier.
"Hello?" I hesitantly walked towards a brunet sitting alone on a ledge. His head was directed downwards, indicating to me that he seemed bored in a place like this. But if that were the case, why would he have bothered to come at all?
"M-Maiko-san! Hi!" He seemed excited as he jumped off. He appeared familiar.. I think I had him in my middle school class. "It's nice to see you again. I'm not sure if you remember me, but I'm Asahi Nakamura, we went to middle school together?"
I knew it! "Yeah, of course. How are you?" I tried not to make my smile seem too forced as I sat in a chair, gesturing him to do the same.
A light coat of blush ran along the surface of his skin. "I'm uh, I'm good, thank you. And you? How have you been? I didn't know you were involved in um.. in all this." He hesitated, clearly trying his best not to offend me.
"Oh, I'm not involved, not really," I laughed awkwardly. "I only kind of stick around for Haruhi, since they're a host now."
For some reason, he looked somewhat relieved at the revelation. "Oh, okay." He tried to play it off cooly. We spoke for the rest of the day since I didn't necessarily want to bother Haruhi while they were doing whatever hosts actually do. To my surprise, they had lines of stacked appointments; Kyoya-senpai had mentioned earlier that Haruhi was a natural, and I was starting to believe it.
