I walk right across the hall. I am two meters away from a huge crowd of people having the time of their lives. The lighting is dim, with green , pink, and red projectors flashing into my eyes respectively. Since this was a masquerade ball more than a Christmas party, black masks are plastered all over the four walls. I am overwhelmed by the sound of techno music that could almost be heard by a deaf person. As I enter, I barely recognize anyone, but I feel a sudden jolt when someone begins tugging on my left forearm. Suddenly, I am being hugged by my best friend, Wanda. " Lindsay! you look totally dashing," she is yelling at the top of her lungs, making sure that I hear her. "So do you ! and I love your dress," I yell back. I am then passed on to my vast selection of friends. Some of them utterly fake and extremely good actresses, and the other minority, the true friends, and before I know it , I am wrapped in a thick tornado of dancing friends. I figure all I could do is dance , so I do my best to have fun . An hour passes, and my energy is almost drained. My towering high heels are not doing anything to help. I can barely feel my legs, but I try my best to conceal it. So far, no prince charming is in sight, but I make sure not to lose hope. Another hour is spent dancing and having small talks. I suddenly spot Alex, my old friend. It has been weeks since we'd last spoken. Things have been taking a turn for the worse between us, and even though it pained me , it was her loss. I glance at my clock, and it is 11:08 p.m. a tide of sadness washes over me. The night is almost going to end, and I am still alone. I decide to sit down a bit. " Finally alone, Lindsay? " I am startled by a quiet whisper in my ear. I turn left, and I am facing Vincent, an acquaintance of mine. We used to be extremely close two years ago, but then he'd left town to pursue a high-school scholarship. He has returned to continue his senior year here, but rumor has it, he is leaving again next year. " Hey Vinie," I try my best to sound enthusiastic, but I could tell he'd sensed there was something wrong. " Come dance with me," it sounded more like an order. He said it with such intensity I felt more than obliged to comply. We dance for a total of two hours non-stop. I felt an electric current wash over me every time he'd touch me , and I could sense he did too. We are interrupted by Jake, my other close friend, who shows up just in time for the slow dance. "Wow, Lindsay. You look... and your eyes... just ravishing," he seems at a loss for words. I nod and smile awkwardly, not knowing how to reply. He wraps his arms around my waist, and I rest my head on his shoulder. I could sense some eyes fixated on us, but I ignore them. I zone out for ten minutes, but finally get interrupted by my older cousin, Jenna, telling me that it is time to leave.
