You found yourself wandering the halls of the Domo. Your conversation with Sprite had left you a bit rattled to say the least. If she knew what was going on between you and Druig, did everyone else? Your friends always teased you two, but you never knew how obvious your attraction was. Maybe Druig was right, maybe you should be up front with everyone. You decided to make your way to your room, wondering if some solitude my clear your head. You rounded the corner when you saw Makkari standing outside your bedroom door.
"Makkari, everything alright?" You asked, concern lacing your voice.
"Y/N, I was looking for you." She signed, a light smile on her lips. "I thought you might like some company."
How could you tell her no. Even if Sersi was your closest friend, Makkari was the second. Your thoughts of the earlier encounter between the speedster and Druig drifted back into your mind. You knew it was a silly thought and it brought a pang of guilt that settled in your belly.
"Sure." You signed back, a smile on your lips.
The two of you strolled through the Domo, making your way to a closed off side with a large window overlooking the forest below. It really was a beautiful place here. You stopped to admire the view when Makkari tapped you on the shoulder.
"Can I ask you something?" She signed, a small look of concern washing over her face. You nodded slightly for the woman to continue.
"Does my friendship with Druig bother you?" A burning guilt began to consume your whole body.
"No, Makkari," you signed back. "You two are friends! We all need one another. Why would that bother me?"
"I know the way you feel about him and I just wanted you to know that you don't have to worry." She signed back with a small shrug. "I love Druig like I love all of you. We're a family." She continued. "But I know the love you feel for him is more and I want you to know I'm on your side." She smiled now, it meeting her eyes.
Sweet Makkari. You felt awful for making assumptions, even if you had never voiced them aloud. Makkari shouldn't have to be there to reassure you, you shouldn't feel this way in the first place.
You turned your eyes down, understanding sinking in. Makkari was your friend, too. She cared about you and wanted to see you and Druig happy together. You began to look at her again when movement below caught your attention. Turning to look out the window, you saw it.
"Deviants." You shuddered out and with a flash, Makkari was gone. You ran as fast as you could in the direction of the Lab, barely missing being run over by Kingo, Thena and Gilgamesh.
"Stay here! We'll make quick work of this." Kingo shouted over his shoulder as he passed by.
You found Phastos in his lab, finishing up on his project from the night before. Putting away his work, he turned to you.
"You okay, Y/N?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, I'm alright." You said, slight worry lingering on your face.
"So, how's the gramophone? I thought I heard music last night. And a bit of laughter here and there." He gave you a knowing look. You blushed lightly, turning to look away.
"Oh, it's working great! Thank you again for making it." You said after you composed yourself.
"Glad you're enjoying it." He smiled, walking toward you. "I really am sorry I missed your song. I feel like I never get to see you in action." He gave you an apologetic look.
"That's because you always steel yourself away in here." You laughed, hitting him lightly with your hand. "You should come down more often. We miss you." You smiled up at the taller man.
