•.1st Person POV.•
Fire covered the territory like how its people once did, right before chaos and havoc broke out.
The blinding light of the ablaze grounds made my eyes water, but wasn't the primary cause for the veil of tears in them. The thick smoke filled my lungs as it arose, making me cough every now and then.
Ash and soot covered my face, merging with the teardrops that had overflowed from my eyes.I searched every corner, every crevice for anyone, but I could only find the corpses of those who once lived.
I knew they were all dead, the Enforcers made sure of that.
Gunshots could be heard from miles away, grunts and wails echoing through the fire-flooded place.
Here I was wandering around fallen buildings, ones that were once bustling with people.
My parents were gone without a trace,
and anyone I had ever encountered was missing, or matter of fact deceased.I clutched my arm as I wandered around mercilessly, not knowing what was bound to happen. I didn't know who to go to, for there was no one.
That is, until I saw someone,
Alive.
Standing before a burning building there stood a figure, their face visible as their backside faces me.It was like my body acted on its own, surging forward to the individual.
But I was soon to be interrupted by the harsh grip of an Enforcer. Their figure loomed over mine, gun in hand while the other was tightened around my wrist; the weapon already in position to kill.
I grunted, trying to get away as tears of fear fell down my cheeks but it seemed impossible. Was this really the end?.....No.
It couldn't be.
I would not be removed from this earth when I had so much ahead of me, my life was not about to end for nothing; not without a fight.
And it was as though it all happened in a quick second, adrenaline coursing through my veins and soon my fist colliding with the face of
an enemy. His tight grip loosened, and I took that as advantage. I slapped the weapon out of reach, and with a kick to the abdomen, the man fell to the ground; quickly trying to regain his stance but was far too late as I continued to beat him to a bloody pulp.
All that rage.. all that anger... was let out on this monster that had not one care for a human soul.
He deserved to suffer,
to suffer like they did.
I would have never imagined that I had such strength pent up in me as my fists pounded down on his face, but the adrenaline rush coursed through my body in seconds. It all seemed to happen in a slow motion, all too blurry for me to progress that the Enforcer lay unconscious on the bloodied ground.
I stopped myself before I could injure him any further, tears sliding down my face as a grunt left my lips.
My eyes trailed over my hands, bloodied and bruised, before flickering over a strange figure that loomed over me.Over the unconscious Enforcer stood a man, the one who once stood far away.
His now visible face was scarred horribly, red eye contrasting against the damaged skin.
His gaze seemed to burn, his presence like a cold breeze.
Something about him felt strange.
The man analyzed the knocked out man with a curious demeanor, acknowledging the sudden strength that overcame me."Where are your parents, child?"
The man questioned, his voice as though a strike of thunder in contrast to the awful silence.
"Gone."
He nodded slightly, a slight flash of familiarity with the feeling in his eyes.
"You.. you are quite powerful knowing what you did with this man."
His eyes shifted to meet mine.
"Why... why did you do it? With one or two brief punches the man would've had enough, but you... you went as far as to practically beat him senseless.""He hurt people, murdered people. If anything, I should have killed him, but I'm not as cruel as he is."
I spat out, the tears of agony in my eyes soon replaced with ones of fury. His eyes glowed with glint of awe, curiosity lingering behind them.
"You wish for revenge, don't you, child? You wish to make them pay for everything they have done. To have them feel the pain you and your people have gone through..."His words echoed in my mind. They all rung with a sense of justice, a sense of vengeance.
All of which I agreed to.
"We can make them pay. We can show them.. show them what we truly are capable of.""We'll show them. We'll bring justice to the Undercity."
The man finished. All I wanted was for this to end. For everything to go back to the way it was, but even I knew that there would be no return to that environment. If it meant giving the Enforcers payback, then so be it. I did not know of what this man intended, but I was going to follow along his side every step of the way if it meant serving The Undercity justice..
The tall individual held out his hand,
and so I complied, my hand clasping his.
"We are going somewhere far better than here: somewhere that wont be infested with traitors."
I nodded, and allowed all the pent up tears to spill from my eyes."We'll show them."
