"I want to marry you" he said after a while of silence. I looked at him surprisingly "me?" "Yes, you," he said with excitement"You don't even know me well enough" I look at him like you would look at a madman "But I know enough to know that I want to spend the rest of my life with you"
In my head, I couldn't help but think he's crazy. We only attended the same university and hardly spoke with each other. "What do you know about me?" I said curiously "I know that you are a Muslim woman who is true to her deen. I've seen you reject to shake hands with the opposite gender. I've seen you support people you hardly knew. I've seen you work hard and say a little prayer before you begin your test... he suddenly pauses and scratches the back of his head in embarrassment
It's just seeing you inspired me to be a better Muslim. I changed many of the things I had started doing in hope of fitting into this desolating society. When I saw you firmly yet kindly reject to shake hands with the opposite gender it encouraged me to do the same. Many of the things you did encouraged me" "But maybe that is the only part of my deen that I'm good at" I say lowering my eyes to the books I was placing in my bag. There are many things that I'm still working on and I thank Allah for concealing them.
"It doesn't matter, what matters is that you try to do all these things, Allah looks at our effort and rewards us for it" he said with a serious tone. I look up at him wondering if he realizes how much comfort the words he said brought to me. I chuckle unable to control my expressions.
I can't believe I'm doing this, I think to myself as I begin to write my father's number on a piece of paper and hand it to him "If you truly mean what you said then it won't be too long before I hear from you again" I said, placing the last book in my bag and leaving. "You will hear from me soon" he yells across the room @aszmx.m
