Things were really starting to take shape in our house. We painted the interior walls with pastel colours and ripped all the carpets up, leaving beautiful wooden oak floors.

We had duplicates of furniture and decided to sell my sofa and move Violets beige suede corner sofa in wit matching reclining armchairs. I kept my red woollen rug and we paired it with a red vase and a red and black canvas print over the mantel. We threw in some red scatter cushions and voila! A cosy family room.

We kept the kitchen much the same, just added her state of the art coffee machine and cute lace cushions for the dining chairs.

The back garden was still a bit of a mess but we'd get to that eventually.

I had been back in work for two weeks already and I felt worn out. The office temperature had significantly increased and I felt myself dosing off after lunch for the past few days.

"Are you ok Evelyn?" My boss asked with a soft expression on her face.

"Sure, I'm fine. Just a bit tired lately. I should get a tonic from the pharmacy on the way home today."

That seemed to be a satisfactory answer as she just nodded slightly and went back to her office.

----

Wandering around the pharmacy I made my way to the health and wellbeing aisle. There were rows upon rows of tonics and I had no idea which to get. Luckily there was someone stacking shelves behind me.

"Excuse me? Sorry to bother you but I'm a bit confused here." I stated sheepishly, "I'm looking to get a tonic to boost my energy a bit?"

He looked at me and smiled slightly. "Don't worry, you're not the only one to get overwhelmed by this stuff. However, I'm not a chemist so I'm afraid I can't really give you advice." He apologised. "If you follow me I can see if someone more qualified is available."

"Thanks very much." I smiled and followed the helpful teen to the back of the store.

"Just give me two minutes." And he headed back through a door that said 'authorised personnel only'.

True to his word he came back followed by a woman wearing a long white coat and a smile. "How can I help you?"

I explained what I wanted and she asked me a few questions.

"How long have you been feeling tired?"

"About a week now, I just can't seem to stay awake for the whole day."

"I see..and have you been feeling ill?"

"Not really..but I have been extremely hot lately?"

Her eyes flicked up to mine as she nodded. "I hope you don't mind me asking? When was your last period?"

Shit.

"Oh no. It was--about, um--six weeks ago." I stammered.

"Is it possible that you may be pregnant?"

My whole face flushed and I nodded. I can't believe I was that careless! I should've known.

After another short, slightly awkward conversation I was on my way back home with a pregnancy test kit and a tonic that was suitable to take if you were pregnant.

Shit! I can't be pregnant? I was so stupid to think that casual sex wouldn't get complicated.

I hope I'm not, because if I am--I'll have to tell James.
