Kayden

For a while, everything that was stressing me out had disappeared. Being around Paxton does that to me. But when we were driving back to Paxton's house, everything, all of the stuff Paxton made me forget, came rushing back.

After listening to Kyle, Mr. Ceffa, I started doubting everyone around me, except Paxton, of course. Everyone I originally trusted, I was now on edge around, especially Sadi. After thinking over all of the friendships I made, which isn't many, my relationship with her is the shakiest. She never really tried to connect with me and whenever we hung out it always seemed like she would rather be somewhere else. Then there were the weird looks she always gave Caleb.

Caleb, on the other hand, I wasn't sure. He seemed to trust me, at least, enough to come to me when he needed someone. But then again, something seemed off that night. And there's the fact that he's Sadi's brother.

Overall, the twins were the only ones that made me uneasy, Sadi moreso than Caleb.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when I felt Paxton put his hand on my shoulder. He had already gotten out of the car and come over to my side.

"You okay?" he asked gently.

I looked up at him and saw the worry in his eyes. He was truly concerned about me and that put a smile on my face. I got out of the car and hugged him quickly before pulling away. "I'm fine, thank you." I said and grabbed his hand.

We headed into a small house like building next to Paxton's house. Lots of people were bustling around inside as Paxton led me through a couple halls to a door at the end of a dead end hallway. Paxton knocked on the door.

"Come in," rang through the door.

Paxton pushed the door open and led me inside, sitting at a desk with papers littered all over it was Paxton's dad.

Paxton's dad was a very strong looking man. The first time I met him I couldn't keep eye contact with him because he looked like he could probably break me in half. But now, with my new found confidence I was able to look at him better. I now know where Paxton got his good looks. Mr. Knight had the same hair color as Paxton but with a shorter cut. Their faces was basically the same except Mr. Knight had grey eyes where Paxton's were a grassy green.

Last time I saw this man he seemed to have an air of power around him. He still had it but he also had a worried expression on his face, showing emotions I didn't know a man like him could have.

"Paxton, Kayden, to what do I owe the pleasure?" He asked.

I slowly shuffled behind Paxton. No matter how much he looked like Paxton, the authority in his voice and aura of power still scared me. I squeezed Paxton's hand for comfort, feeling on edge in the presence of the alpha. He squeezed my hand back in reassurance, instantly calming my nerves.

"We have to talk to you. It's important." Paxton responded.

"Alright, come on in," Paxton led me into the room at Mr. Knight's command and shut the door behind us before leading me to a couch across from the desk.

"So, what do you need to speak about?" Mr. Knight asked.

Paxton looked to me, but I told him with a look that I didn't want to speak.

He smiled and squeezed my hand before responding. "So lately, Kayden has been kind of nervous because a teacher of his kind of freaked him out."

"How?'

"Well, he was talking about mates and marking and how he has to be careful who he trusts. This man also isn't part of the pack and I never knew he was a wolf."

"Do either of you know why he would say something like this?" Mr. Knight questioned.

Paxton looked down at me and I shook my head, causing Paxton to shake his as well as he turned back to look at his father.

"Kayden, do you remember anything about where you were before foster care and all of that?" he asked me.

I shook my head.

"How far back can you remember?"

I held up three fingers. "Yeah, he said he remembered being dropped on someone's doorstep but nothing before that." Paxton answered for me.

Paxton's dad studied us for a minute, obviously thinking hard.

"What color is your wolf's fur?" He asked after a minute.

What? My fur? Why does the color of my fur matter?

"Pure... white. Oh, god." Paxton said. I looked up at him and saw that his face had paled.

I squeezed his hand, trying to get his attention but he just shook his head and whispered, "No,"

"Kayden," I turned to Mr. Knight. "I know this is going to be a lot to take in but you're in danger."

Say what now? I study Mr. Knight's face for any trace of a lie but find none. Surprisingly, I found fear and concern lingering in his expression.

"If I'm right, you were born to Mallory and Jonathan Michaels, the Alphas of a pack up in Pennsylvania. (A/N: I don't know if I mentioned this or not but Paxton and Kayden currently live in Ravenswood, South Carolina and Paxton's pack is called the Ravenswood pack.) You were born with the purest of hearts because another, Kane Reynolds, was born with the darkest of hearts. You were the balance. A prophecy that has been altered through time basically said that you and your mate would be the only ones able to defeat him. This is why, thirteen years ago, rogues attacked your pack and you were kidnapped. Everyone thought you were dead." Mr Knight explained to me.

The room around me spun and I felt really dizzy. I could only hear unintelligible mumbling around me. With everything swirling around in my mind it made it hard to breathe, like the new information was suffocating me.

I blinked and suddenly everything was clear again and I could breathe. Only problem was I was no longer in Mr. Knight's office. I was in a backyard playing with a green eyed wolf pup along the edge of the woods.

We played together for a couple of minutes before I heard a howl off in the distance. The and I froze in terror as wolves broke out of the woods.

I heard a woman screaming behind me and a couple of men shouting. I was lifted by the scruff of my neck along with the green eyed wolf pup beside me. I looked up to see a blonde woman hold me before a wolf with completely black eyes jumped on her back.

She fell to the ground, dropping me and the other pup. We scrambled away in terror, tripping over our own paws.

Suddenly, I was lifted from behind roughly. I yelped and squirmed, trying to get out of the grip of the stranger but it was impossible.

My captor sprinted into the woods and I heard the screams of the blonde woman quieting behind us as we ran deeper into the woods.

When I opened my eyes again, I was lying on the couch in Mr. Knight's office with my head on Paxton's lap.

I whimpered as I sat up and Paxton was immediately fawning over me.

"Oh my god, Kayden. Are you okay? You turned white as a sheet and you were swaying and hyperventilating until you fainted! Oh god I was so scared." He said, hugging me close to him. I hugged him to me tightly, enjoying his comfort.

"I'm okay," I whispered quietly in his ear so only he could hear me.

Paxton pulled away from me as we heard a ruckus on the other side of the door I heard voices yelling and growling but one voice in particular sounded familiar.

"Caleb?" I whispered.
