Kayden

I sprinted down the beach as fast as I could, faster than I've ever run before. Sobs escaped my lips as I thought of what I had just done.

I finally stopped as I came to a bank of large rocks and collapsed on one of them, sobbing painfully into my hands.

Paxton was going to leave me. He's not going to want to be with me, the monster who just BIT HIM! Oh god, I can't believe I actually by him.

It must have been five minutes before I felt a presence next to me. I immediately knew who it was by the sparks flying off my skin at the contact. I knew I had to talk to him. There was no other way to communicate with him. I wanted the first time I talked to him to be when I told him I love him but I know that couldn't be.

When I had calmed down enough to talk, I hoarsely whispered, "I'm sorry," Paxton tensed next to me for a moment then relaxed. "It's okay," he said and I looked up at him in disbelief but his left shoulder caught my attention. There were teeth marks where I had bitten him and dried blood surrounding the area. I gasped.

"Hey, it's alright. You just forgot to heal it." He said matter-of-factly. What was he talking about, healing it? I gave him a weird look and he just looked back at me. "You are a werewolf right?" He asked.

My eyes widened and my jaw dropped. How could he tell that from just a bite? I nodded.

"Then how do you not know about mating rituals?" He asked.

"I'm adopted. I never knew my real parents. I didn't even know I was a werewolf until two weeks ago." I responded quietly. "How do you know this?"

"Because I am one too." I just looked at him in complete shock. "So I know what you're going through. All of the uncontrollable lust and the addictive sparks that explode off your skin every time we touch, I feel all of that for you. Because we are mates. Your wolf, this presence in your mind, it can sense your mate better than you can. Your mate is what humans call your soul mate, the perfect person for you. So when you find your mate your wolf wants to do two things, mark them and mate them. One of which you already did to me." Paxton explained.

"So you're my mate?" I asked, processing everything.

"Yep. You're the only person I can be truly happy with." He responded.

I looked down, smiling happily, and rested my head on his right shoulder. Paxton threw his arm over my shoulders and held me close.

"Thank you for talking to me." I heard Paxton say above me. "I love your voice."

I smiled up at him and then pressed my lips to his gently, wrapping my arms around his waist. When I pulled away I whispered, "I love you,"

Paxton smiled hugely. "I love you, too, Kayden." His arms tightened around me, holding me close to him.

I don't know how long we sat there, relishing in each other's embrace but soon enough we had to head back home. I didn't realize how far I ran down the beach until now. It took us a good ten minutes to get back to our little area.

The whole ride home, all I could think about is how I didn't want Paxton to leave my side. The closer we got to home, the more my hand tightened around Paxton's.

We were about a block from my house when Paxton asked, "What's wrong?" while squeezing my hand.

"Don't leave," I whispered, nervous about what he would say.

"I wish I could stay, Kayden, but I have a curfew. I need to be home by 8." He answered sadly. I looked out the window, not wanting Paxton to see my face. I don't know why but right now I didn't feel safe going home, sleeping alone, and that scared me to death. Tears pricked my eyes and I tried to swallow the lump in my throat.

"Hey," I heard Paxton say from beside me. I could feel him fumbling next to me and suddenly I was lifted into his lap.

We had parked in my driveway but Paxton didn't look like he was going to be getting out anytime soon.

"What's wrong? Why are you crying?" He asked. I shrugged. "Please tell me." He pleaded.

"I'm just scared. I don't know why, I just don't want to be alone tonight." I whispered, relaxing in Paxton's hold, melting into him.

"Alright, why don't you ask Addy if you can stay over mine tonight, okay? I'm sure my parents won't mind." He said quietly.

I smiled weakly and nodded.

Paxton held me tightly before letting me go and we walked inside together, hand in hand, to talk to Addy.
