It was a perfect day. All made possible by Adonis. Unfortunately, we had to cut my birthday celebration short since a storm suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
We went around helping everyone secure their houses made of thin, light materials. Their roofs needed to be checked on too.
Gas lamps, candles, food and other necessities needed to be readied incase of an emergency. We had no idea how strong, and how long the storm was going to last, and so all we could do was to anticipate what we could prepare if the situation dragged on for a few days.
The wind started to pick up speed, the trees began to sway slowly as the skies turned gray, and then after a few hours into a black, starless canvass.
We lay in bed, cuddling under the thin blankets.
"Happy birthday my Cassie." Adonis whispered.
"Thank you." I felt him hold me tighter, his nose almost touching my lips as he sought to close the distance between us. In the flickering light of the candle, his face took on a serene, almost angelic feature. Angelic, if not for the mischievous twinkle in his eyes as he started to grind his pelvis against mine.
"Did you enjoy the party?" He asked, kissing my forehead.
"Very much so, thank you."
"I went all out on the preparations. I wanted to make sure everything was perfect."
"I know you did Adonis. Thank you, for making my special day even more special."
"I still haven't given you my gift." He shifted our position, and I found myself suddenly lying flat on my back as he covered my entire body with his bulk.
"Adonis... what are you..." His lips claimed mine, his tongue tracing my lips. In my momentary bliss I almost gave in to the desire that started to consume me.
Almost.
"Adonis!" I gently pushed him off me. "What do you think you're doing?"
"Making love! To my husband!" He hastily got off me, and stood glaring at me from the foot of the bed.
"We talked about this. I told you... not until you get your memories back." I was beginning to miss the way his mouth tasted.
"No! You decided. I had no say in the matter. I just went along to avoid any arguments."
"Then what changed?"
"I want you! I want to make love to my husband. To show you how much I love you. How much I want to share myself to you.
"I want your kisses! I want your caress! I need your warmth. I want you to show me that you still find me attractive. That you still desire me. I lost my memories Cassie... don't let me feel as though I've lost you too!"
"Adonis, you haven't lost me. I'm here, I still love you."
"Then show me!" In an instant he was again on top of me, his mouth devoured my lips, my tongue. His hands roamed all over me, caressing, touching, kneading. His breathing came in labored gasps as his kisses deepened. I wanted this so badly... but not like this.
"Stop!" I pushed him forcefully away, and he fell out of bed.
He sat up slowly, almost lazily from where he fell. His eyes were averted, yet I saw him start to shed a tear or two from the side of his face.
"I understand." He said softly. "You're using my memory loss as an excuse to avoid making love to me. It's not my condition that's a problem here Cassie, and you know it."
"I'm trying so hard not to jump you. Not to take advantage of you. Not to rip your clothes off and have my way with you. Can't you see how badly I want you! But if we're ever going to this, I want you to be in complete control of the situation... I need to know that I did not in any way take advantage of your condition!"
"What condition? You're my husband!"
"You don't understand."
"Then make me understand!"
"We're not married!" I shouted at him. There was complete silence after those words were uttered, the howling wind the only sound that disturbed the silence of the night.
Before I could blink Adonis was on top of me, shaking me forcefully. I felt like a rag doll as he cried while clutching on to my arms as he shook me.
"You're lying!"
"Am not!" I felt the words cut my heart.
"Don't do this to me Cassie! Please! I know you love me. Don't lie to me! Don't make up stories just to avoid making love to me. Please!"
"We're not married! We never were!" I shouted again before I felt his hands suddenly release their hold on me, and I collapsed on the pillow behind me.
"I don't believe you. You're lying. You're lying! All this time I fought my fears, my tears, my confusion. I held everything at bay, I was strong because I had you. You're not taking that away from me. You are my husband, you are mine! You will stay mine no matter what you tell me!" And with that he ran out of our little cottage, disappearing into the darkness that the night has brought.
Inside my mind were questions that could not be answered. The emotions that came were stronger than the storm that gathered outside the still open door where the man who chose to believe my lies over the truth... had moments ago disappeared to.
