"Hey mom, can Akul come home today? We have a project together."
"Sure, why not? Hop in the car you two!"
"Uh actually, can I call my mom once? I'll just let her know I'll be staying with you tonight." asked Akul.
"Okay honey, here's my phone." said Riya's mom handing him her phone.
Akul called his mom and got permission to stay at Riya's house. "My mom said it's fine and she'll be sending over my clothes with my neighbor because he has some work near your house. So he'll be dropping off my clothes on the way. Is that cool?" he asked Riya and her mom.
"Yeah that's cool. Get in then." said Riya signaling him to get into the car.
Now, you might be wondering if Riya's and Akul's parents knew about their relationship; and the truth is, they don't. As I said earlier, Riya wasn't that close with her parents; Even if they had told their parents, they wouldn't have accepted it because that's how many parents are in India. Most people would rather keep all this a secret than go through the trouble of convincing their parents that this doesn't mean they're doing drugs and having sex everyday. So obviously, Riya and Akul had decided on not telling them and put on the title of "Just Friends" whenever they were around. But not now because now it was true. They were just friends. Well, friends who had feelings for each other at least. Anyhoo, on with the story.
They both didn't speak a word during the car ride home. It was either too awkward between them or they just couldn't speak with an adult around.
"Finally home! I'm exhausted!" said Riya, happy to be home.
"And now we can finally get on with our research" said Akul who was immediately greeted with a death stare from Riya and a suspicious look from her mom. "For the project" he continued, just to be safe.
"Yeah. Anyway let's go upstairs." said Riya as she showed him to the guest room. Riya changed into some comfortable clothes before Akul got his from his neighbor and did the same. They had some snacks and then finally decided to get on with the project.
"Now let's go and take a look at the book." said Riya softly while climbing up the stairs so that her mom wouldn't hear her. They went up to her room and closed the door. Riya removed the huge book from her bag and dropped it on her bed. Akul opened it to the chapter and placed it in between so the both of them could see it properly.
"So I read earlier that the Werewolves are just like Wolves, but like an upgraded version? If that makes sense." said Riya showing the lines to Akul.
"Healing abilities!? That's so cool! That means if you like get hurt, then you'll automatically heal right!?" he said.
"Yeah!"
"So what if we try cutting your hand, just a little, to see if you'll heal?" he said excitedly.
"Uhh...sure. Okay I'll go get a needle or something. But just a little okay? I really don't wanna do this. What if it doesn't work!?" said Riya starting to have second thoughts.
"No no no, it's okay. It'll work. Do you trust me?" he asked, trying to reassure her.
"Yeah."
"Okay then, don't worry."
Riya got the needle and gave it to Akul. "Give me your hand and close your eyes or something. It's just a small cut."
"Okay, fast." she said.
Akul carefully pierced the needle into her skin and made a cut but Riya didn't seem to notice at all. Blood started oozing out; even though it wasn't a big cut, it was deep enough to bleed a lot.
