*Hello everyone I hope you are well. I was reading this book and totally forget that Aria never received her locket throughout the book so we are going back in time. This part would take place after Jason's death but before Tim arrived. So I hope you enjoy and maybe I will add more chapters that take place in the past seeing as for the most part I ended the book on an open-ended or I could continue it too well see. But here it is the Locket.

A special thank you to @skynight88 for you comment because I forget I never mentioned the locked when I originally wrote the book so thank you.

****************

Aria spent the first week after Jason's death in the graveyard visiting him nearly every day. It was hard for her to accept the fake that he was gone and probably was not coming back. (Or so she thought.)

Aria walked through the backdoor into the manor and left her muddy sneakers at the door. She grabbed a cookie from the cooling rack. Knowing Alfred would normally scold her for spoiling her dinner, but at the moment she didn't really care about that. Aria had slowly felt not herself and it was not normal for her. She tried her best to hide how she felt but it was normal to feel this way. Her little brother had just been buried last Sunday and at times it didn't hit her that his pranks were gone, his consistent need to disobey Bruce, or them both messing with Dick when he would visit the manor.

Aria sat in the living when she heard footsteps and a sigh."I guess we had the same idea?" Her father asked her.

Nodding was the only response she could reply to him with."Aria, can you come with me I have something to give you."

"Okay." She rose from the couch and followed her Dad to his office. She sat on his desk as he took out a box that was very old. He takes out an old folded letter and hands it to her.

"What is this a bill for all the things I broke." She offered him a small smile he returned after a while.

He sighed and unfolded it and placed it in her hands."It's from your mother." He said horsely. Aria looked at her father with a mix of emotions washing over her face.

"You told me she died, you said she didn't make it when she had me." She rose from his desk with the letter in her hand with a tight grip.

He rubbed his face and turned to face her."Read the letter sweetheart. Please, I didn't understand at first but please read it." He sighed.

Aria huffed and looked at the letter not saying a word nor did Bruce the only sound was the crackling of the fireplace joined by the ticking of the Grandfather clock.

After a while, she broke the silence, "What happened to her?" She did not look up from the letter.

Bruce and Aria looked at each other and without him saying it she said for him."She's dead isn't she?"

He nodded."I tried to find her after she left you with us, she had borrowed a lot of money from Falcone and did not pay him back. By the time I figured it out I was too late," he debated telling her everything.

"Tell what really happened. Please, Dad, I would want to know if it was you." Hearing her say that broke Bruce's heart more than it was already broken due to losing his son and he didn't want to think about what would happen to his daughter if he withheld the information and she go and investigate for herself.

"He had her killed, she was beaten to death and left in an alleyway in Crime Alley. Gordon was still a Lieutenant at the time and he asked me to look into her murder, she had been there for over a week alone," He studied her face and she only nodded for him to continue." When I figured out who she was I tried to find any family she had left but you were all she had left. She gave me you because she knew if Falcone found out about you he would use you to get to her."

Aria placed the letter on his desk and looked down at it."She couldn't have given you time to prepare could she." She chuckled coldly. But tears found their way onto the letter.

Bruce crossed the room and place a hand on her arm pulling her into a hug as she sobbed. He placed a kiss on the top of her head and rubbed her back.

"Sweetheart your mother loved you very much that's why she left. She didn't want anything to happen to you." She slowly nodded still staying in her Father's arm.

Bruce reached into his pocket and pulled out the locket."Alfred kept it clean and polished all these years. We meant to give it to you on your birthday last month but I could bring myself to ruin one of the happiest days of your left."

He let go of him and turned around moving her hair up as he placed the locket around her neck. She touched it and felt its coldness. She turned back to her father who she hugged quickly before leaving the room not saying another word.

*********

Aria and Bruce did not talk about that day after that she asked about her mother a few times and what was she was like but to her humor, Bruce couldn't remember much more than what she looked like, in his defense he was young and only had a one-track mind at the time but from what he could recall was that she was a plus one of someone's from the company and she was so and was very beautiful and funny.

Bruce had only met her that one time and he led her to an empty office which Aria had wished he had not told her that part. But once they finished he saw where Alfred had called and texted him to let him know that his best friend Harvey Dent who had just become Two-Face by the mob was on the loose and was murdering people he felt were responsible for his new look.

He left Jessica to get redressed and that was the last time he ever saw or spoke to her. The following January Aria was left on his doorstep. And a few days after that he found her body along with GCPD.

Aria snuck into the Batcave cracked the sealed case file of her mother and read the horrible details Bruce left out. Because it took so long to figure out who she was and she had been in the alley for over a week she was declared a Jane Doe was cremated. Her ashes were entombed in an unmarked grave. After Falcone was murdered during one of Gotham's biggest turf wars in Gotham history and crime began to cool down for a bit Bruce and Alfred went to Gordon and the three of them had her mother moved into her own grave in Gotham Cemetery.

One night during patrol Batgirl glided into the cemetery snuck into the mausoleum and found her mother's grave. She placed a small bouquet of white lilies in the holder beside her name in a bronze finish.

Jessica A. Greene

Aria traced her hand along with the white marble of the grave and sighed."I know we never met, I wish we had there a lot of things I wish I could ask you," she paused taking in a deep breath."My brother is with you tell him how much I miss him. And take care of him for me Mom, okay?" A few stray tears slide down Batgirl's masked eye but she quickly wiped them looking up at the window above the door she saw the bat signal.

"Goodbye, Mom." She gentles touched the grave before rushing out the door and back into the cold Gotham night.

*I hope you like this bittersweet chapter and I may do some more stories that continue or take place in an alternative world because I do miss writing especially for Aria she was such a fun character I feel like there is still more of her to be shown so we'll see.
