Striker led me out to the dancefloor, where a slow song was playing on the dusty jukebox in the corner. It took me a moment, but I realized it was Dustin Lynch's 'Cowboys and Angels'. I hadn't heard this song in years.
We ride side by side
A cloud of dust, a ray of light
My touch is her temptation
Her kiss is my salvation
She's sweet, I'm wild, we're dangerous
Cowboys and angelsAfter the absolute shit I'd had, this was the exact thing I needed. Laying my head on Striker's shoulder, I let myself get lost in the lyrics as we swayed back and forth. My eyes closed as I felt the stress slowly ease in my chest.
"You ok?" Striker's voice was a soft murmur. I realized a tear had escaped and slid down my cheek.
Shaking my head, I replied, "It's just been a long day. I'm sorry."
I started to pull away, but Striker's arm around my waist tightened, keeping me pinned against his body. Lowering his head, he whispered in my ear, "Who hurt you, darlin'?"
I looked up into his bright gaze, I contemplated unloading everything right then and there. The texts I had found, the missing money... I couldn't just unload that on a stranger.
But why not?
"Do you really want to know?"
