Nowhere But Up

A faint red glow filtered through the blinds when I woke up. Stretching lazily, I looked over to see Striker still asleep. He looked so peaceful like that, I didn't have the heart to wake him up.

After a few quiet moments, I heard Striker yawning beside me. Rolling over to face him again, I smiled softly, "Good morning."

His smile was sleepy as he wrapped an arm around me, replying, "Good morning, darlin',"

I couldn't help but wish this moment would stretch on forever.  And while that was impossible, I could at least prolong it as much as possible. Closing my eyes, I enjoyed the feeling of peace and fulfilled contentment.

It was a complete turnaround from my life before I met Striker. It felt as though I had hit rock bottom and he had helped me crawl out of that miserable hole. I had no way of knowing what our relationship had in store for us or what the future held, but this moment gave me hope for that future.

As I lay there wrapped in Striker's embrace, I couldn't help but think that no matter if you were alive or dead, there was nowhere to go but up.
