*Danny POV*
It was the day of homecoming. Azariah refused to tell me what she was wearing. Not even the color... I got her a white corsage.I was really happy to be going to homecoming with her... I don't even know when I fell for her, it just happened.
Wes was our main issue. If he found out we were still going, he would hurt Azariah.
I was getting my tux on when I looked at the time. Almost 8. The dance started at 9 and ended at midnight.
I finished getting ready and grabbed my keys. Exiting my home and getting in my car. Heading to Azariah.
I arrived shortly and sat in my truck for a few minutes. I was really nervous for tonight.
I finally got out of my truck and walked to the door, knocking.
Her brother came to the door, he glared at me.
"You're lucky, I kept my dad out of the house. Because it is my sisters night. You treat her right or I will personally kill you." I nodded in response as he turned to yell for her.
What does her dad have to do with anything?
Her mom came from Azariah's room, probably to warn me like her brother had.
"Ah you must be Danny. My darling daughter has been talking about how she couldn't wait for this ---" her mom was cut off by Azariah herself. Who was poking her head out of her room.
"Mom. I have not. I just told you who I was going with." She gave an annoyed look.
"Sweetie come out and show this handsome man what you look like."
Azariah disappeared for a second. Then she came out. I was in awe.
She was wearing a silver dress, with converses. Making her outfit even more perfect. Her hair was curled and pulled back into an up-do with her bangs framing her face.
"Azariah! I told you not to wear converses..." Her mother glared at her.
"Mom it's just homecoming, whatever." She rolls her eyes and looks at me. "We should go."
"Yea." I hold the door for her and glance at her brother. He had a trusting face.
We walk to my truck and I hold the door for her as she gets in and then shut it. Then I walk over to my side and get in, before driving away.
----------
We arrive shortly after, walking into the huge room.
"Can you get me some punch?" Azariah asks as she sits down.
"Sure." I walk toward the punch table and out of Azariahs sight. I wasn't comfortable with leaving her sight, but she wanted punch.
As I turn around and head back to Azariah, I see her sitting uncomfortably and then I see Wes.
I put down the punch and start to walk faster toward Azariah. But a crowd of people came between us and when they were gone, so was she.
I ran out of the dance and looked around. Then. I felt something under my foot.
Her phone!
I looked at numbers that were typed in. Too long to be a number. Maybe it's a word?
I will be back.
I don't know who wrote it, but I thought it was a good sign.
I walked back inside and surely enough Azariah ran to me.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Nothing." She said and smiled at me. I knew she was playing it off. I also knew she knew I knew.
*Azariah POV* Explanation!
Danny left to get me punch as I sat down at an empty table.
Just as I thought I was safe, Wes showed his face.
"I told you you couldn't come." He stated.
"I am getting real tired of you. You can't threaten me Wes. I don't like you anymore, I like Danny. Love him even." I blurt out in frustration and instantly regret doing so.
"Wrong answer." He says as he moves his jacket a little, revealing a gun. "If you aren't convinced by me threatening you, then maybe I should chat with Danny."
"What do you want?" I ask.
"Come with me." He stood and waited for me to chose.
I looked over to see Danny walking back to us. He looks straight at me and puts our cups down on a nearby table, walking faster toward us.
Then a crowd walked between us. I looked at the direction Danny was and then at Wes. Then I made my decision.
I went with Wes.
"What do you want?" I asked again.
"Azariah... I've thought about it. I'm a douchebag. I've done things that I shouldn't have. Damn I hate myself for it."
"Well threatened me doesn't help."
"Well..." He looked confused.
"What do you want?" I asked once again.
"I just wanted to say. You can go. I was convinced to let you be." He looked at his truck.
"Alright. I know there is something else on your mind." I grabbed my phone and typed some numbers secretively. Then bent down to tie my shoe and left my phone on the ground.
"Come here." He motioned to his truck.
We both got in and drove away. But not far.
"Here." He pushed a flower at me.
"Why couldn't you give this to me back there?"
"I don't know... You can leave now. It's only around the corner." With that I got out and went back.
I saw Danny as I entered and ran over to him.
"What happened?" He asked.
"Nothing." I said and smiled. But I knew he knew something was up. "Let's dance."
We walked to the middle on the dance floor and started dancing slowly.
As we danced I could feel people staring at me. I heard a few 'aw's and 'ooh's.
After the song was done a few more song played and me and Danny danced to all of them.
That is until the music stopped and we heard a person start talking. A lady.
"Hello everyone. I'm Mrs. Miller. Right here in my hand I have the names of the Homecoming King and Queen."
After all the whooping and clapping, she opened the first page.
"The Homecoming King is.... Danny Greenland!" Of course he was... Everyone loves him. But as he walked up I heard some boos...
"And the Homecoming Queen is... Azariah Cylus!" I paused. I was a nobody... How could I be the queen... But then I remembered all the faces on me and Danny as we danced. I didn't like the attention. Especially because it was Danny, he was the reason I was liked.
Unlike Danny, as I walked up no one booed.
I got up there and Mrs. Miller put a crown on my head. Then guided me to Danny. We linked hands and smiled at each other.
Eyes were on us. And then we were shooed off stage to dance in the center again.
I could honestly say it was the best day ever. But left me with one question.
What was up with Wes?
