Back on Berk, a few days ago
Astrid's POV
It was the morning of Snoggletog Eve, my first one with my girlfriend.
Oh Freya, my girlfriend. Heat rushes to my cheeks as I think about her. Her perfect face appears in my mind and my blush intensifies. Gods, I am whipped.
I wasn't always the best person to Nara, not even close, especially when I realized I loved her. That was the beginning of the end of our initial friendship. I feel so guilty for abandoning her, especially when she was newly blinded.
Gods, I was a terrible person then. I shunned her as I tried to stamp out my feelings, but they just wouldn't go away. No matter how much I tried to be like everyone else, tough and strong, seeing Nara always made my heart flutter like a million butterflies were trapped in my chest.
Oh how I wish I could take it all back. But I can't and I'll spend the rest of my life making it up to her. So it's time to make this Snoggletog the best one yet.
I get dressed and head to Stormfly.
"Good morning, Stormfly." I say, bringing her a basket of fish. "Ready to help me get ready for Snoggletog? Then we can go see Nara and Vision. See if I can't get her out from under her mountain of blankets." Stormfly's head picks up when I mention the Nara's Nadder.
I've noticed Stormfly is rather close to Vision and it's quite cute to see the 2 Nadders together. Anyway, time to go see what Stormfly and I can do to help set up. With Stormfly following me, I head out to find the Chief.
Oh, the Chief, aka Nara's dad, aka my girlfriend's dad. As I approach, Chief Stoick the Vast, Terror of the Seas, Most High Ruler of the Hooligans, I can't help but feel intimidated. He's always been protective of his daughter, though it goes completely unnoticed by Nara and Hiccup. And now I'm dating his daughter.
The thin layer of snow crunches on the ground as I make my way to the Chief. I move around the group setting up the giant Snoggletog "Tree" and look at all the decorations on every building. Every surface looks as if it were covered with a dusting of powdered sugar. People use dragons to help adorn everywhere with decorative shields and ornaments.
I try my best to hide my feelings of fright and anxiety as I ask, "Hello, Chief. What can Stormfly and I do to help set up?"
"Ah, Astrid." The Chief says. As he towers over me, I can't help but feel like he already knows all my secrets. I feel like an open book. It's a rather terrifying sensation. "Take those shields and get them up on the tree."
"You got it, Chief." I say, eager to end the conversation.
I gather up the shields and head to the "tree". The Tree isn't really a tree as it is just a long pole as the trunk, with multiple planks that have been painted green as branches. I see Jorvik Larson stand on a Monstrous Nightmare's head, who raises their head so Jorvik can place a shield up.
"Are you ready, girl?" I ask.
Stormfly chirps her agreement and readies her tail spikes. Like a frisbee, I fling the shields into the air, letting Stormfly send spikes to pin them to the "tree". I hug Stormfly and give her some nice scratches under her chin.
Chief Stoick and Gobber chuckle before the Chief addresses everyone. "Well done! Well done. All of you! I never thought I'd live to see this day peace on the island of Berk. This will surely be the greatest holiday we've ever seen."
The villagers cheer and laugh, all of us happy and ready for the best Snoggletog ever.
Above us, I hear the calls of dragons. Stormfly jerks her head out of my hands and perks up.
