2014, January

I quickly change the channel as the unexpected kiss scene comes. Staring blankly at the TV screen, I go back to that channel, only to change it again as I see that the kiss scene isn't over yet. Ugh... why is it necessary for their kiss to last so long? We get it, you love each other. Now move on to more important stuff!

The sound of the door opening causes me to shift my attention to Mom who just came back.

"Where have you been? You missed the drama episode," I go back to the previous channel and sigh in relief when I see that the kiss scene has finally ended. But sadly, the drama is over as well.

"I went to see our new neighbor," Mom says. "I returned their plate."

"You sure did take your time returning the plate."

"Well, Mrs. Choi invited me in," Mom sits beside me. "We had some coffee and chatted. She's really nice."

"Hmm~" I nod my head, watching the repetitive commercials as I wait for the next drama to start.

"She invited us for dinner."

"Hmm--what?" I stare at her. "You accepted the invitation?"

"Yea."

"But why?" I frown, not believing what she just said.

"It's a good chance to get to know our new neighbors. After all, we are going to be seeing each other for many years."

"Do I have to come as well?" I look at her, giving my best puppy eyes in hopes that she'll say no.

"Yes, you do," Mom nods, earning a groan from me.

"But, Mom~" I begin to make a fuss, "you know I don't like to go outside and I specially hate meeting strangers!"

"You haven't had any human interaction ever since school ended," She crosses her arms.

"But tonight is the last episode of our favorite drama!"

"We can watch the re-run tomorrow morning."

"But..." I begin to pout, "Mom, please~"

"Yena, please," she looks me straight in the eye. "It won't be that bad."

My pout becomes bigger as I lean back in the sofa and cross my arms, "fine."

"That's my daughter," Mom pats my head before standing up. "We'll go there after your dad comes home from work. You can pick your clothes in the meantime."

I sigh in defeat and stand up from the sofa, taking my phone as I go to my room. As I close the door behind me, my phone vibrates in my hand.

I momentary forget my misery as I see her name on top of my messenger app. I sit on my bed as I read her messages.

Don't worry, I'm still alive lol
I'm just too busy with things so I'm hella tired 🤦‍♀️

A smile creeps its way up my face as I immediately type in my reply.

Aha! I see
Good luck with moving in and other stuff
Don't strain yourself too much and rest up, okay?
You know your health is a priority, right?

When I see that she doesn't reply back immediately like I did, I exit the messenger app and put my phone on my bed. Well, time to choose what to wear for tonight.

I push myself up from my bed and go toward the closet. I open it and scan the clothes to see what I can wear. I immediately reach for my favorite pair of dark blue jeans and throw it on my bed. Now... for the top.
