Sam, in the middle of a field of corn, emerges onto a small path between the rows of tall vegetables. He looks back and forth. "Mister Frodo? Miss Silveria?" He gets no answer and calls out again. Frodo then suddenly appears round the bend in the path, looking puzzled. Silveria has transformed to her elf form and stands a little behind Frodo. "I thought I'd lost you," Sam exclaims in relit. "What are you talking about?" Frodo asks and approaches Sam.

"It's just something Gandalf said," Sam says, and Silveria smiles as she remembers. She heard it when they were packing for Sam. "What did he say?" Frodo asks. "'Don't you lose him, Samwise Gamgee!' And I don't mean to." Sam says, and Frodo smiles. "Sam, we're still in the Shire! What could happen?" Suddenly, Pippin bursts from the cornfield and knocks over Frodo. Merry, close behind, knocks over Sam. Both have an armful of vegetables. You widen your eyes but make no sign of attacking. "Frodo? Merry! It's Frodo Baggins." Pippin exclaims.

"Hello, Frodo!" Merry says. "Get off him!" Sam exclaims and hauls Pippin off Frodo. "Frodo? Are you all right?" Sam ask. Silveria steps forth and aks, her voice stern get amused. "What's the meaning of this?" Merry doesn't know the answer and says to Sam instead. "Hold this." He then hands vegetables to Sam. "You've been into Farmer Maggot's crop!" You guys hear a dog barking and an angry, yelling voice. Pippin grabs Frodo and runs, followed by Merry and you. Sam does a double-take on the produce in his hands, drops them, and runs after the others.

"Hoi! You get back here! Wait till I get this through you! Get out of my fields! You'll know the devil if I catch up with you!" Farmer Maggot calls and brandishes a scythe. "'Dunno why he is so upset. It's only a couple of carrots!" Merry yells while you're running. "And some cabbages. And those few bags of potatoes that we lifted last week and, and the mushrooms the week before!" Pippin ads, making you sigh. "Yes, Pippin! My point is, he is overreactin'. Run!" Pippin, Frodo, you, and Merry stop just before the edge of a gorge.

Sam slams into you from behind, and you all roll down the hill.

At the bottom, you end up in a tangled heap, spitting various bits of forest from your mouths. Pippin has landed just in front of a pile of droppings. "Ooh! That was close." Pippin sighs in relief. "Ewwww! I think I've broken something." Merry says and pulls out a broken carrot. "Trust a Brandybuck and a Took!" Sam mutters angerly, and your stand up and brush off the dirt off your clothes. "What?! That was just a detour, a shortcut." Merry defends. "A shortcut to what?"

"Mushrooms!"

Sam and Merry rush towards the mushrooms, followed by Pippin. Frodo, standing, looks down the road. You stand beside him, your elven eyes narrowing. "I think we should get off the road," Frodo says lowly. It sounds like something that can be heard coming up the road. "Get off the road! Quick!" Your order. And the hobbits grab their things and cross the street, hopping over and then crawling beneath a large overhanging tree root. You join them, placing yourself beside Frodo. The sound of hoof steps is heard.

"Shhh! Stop it! Be quiet!" Merry whispers yell. Merry and Pippin stop jostling each other. Frodo looks up through a small gap and sees a black horse and a Rider, clothed and hooded in black. You feel the urge to growl but hold it in. The Black Rider leaps from his horse. He approaches the tree root and rests his armored hand on it, hissing and sniffing. Insects and earthworms start coming out of their holes. Frodo enters a trance, tempted to wear the Ring as his finger strains towards it.

You realize this, and you reach over your Frodo in the arm, startling him out of his trance. Frodo jerks the Ring away from his finger. Merry throws a bag full of vegetables into the forest to distract the Rider, who whirls away and follows the sound. You and The hobbits make a break for it. You run a short distance and then stop, gasping. "What was that?" Pippin exclaims. Frodo stares at the Ring in his palm but says nothing.

Nightfall comes. A Black Rider is patrolling the area. The hobbits and you hide behind the trees. "Anything?" Sam asks, and you shake your head even tho he can't see it. "Nothing." You say back. A sigh escapes your throat as you hear Pippins's confused voice.  "What is going on?" Merry comes striding up to the two of you, and you turn, letting Frodo take care of this.  "That Black Rider was looking for something... or someone. Frodo?" Merry ask.

Suddenly, something caught your ears, and you whispered yell, "Get down!" The Black Rider feigns leaving the area. Frodo, and you stand up again. His face was grim as he turned to Merry.  "I have to leave the Shire. Sam and I, Silveria, must get to Bree." Merry nods and says, "Right. Buckleberry Ferry. Follow me." A second Black Rider appears along your path. Frodo is delayed as you run on. The hobbits jump over a fence and run towards the dock. One Rider is hot on Frodo's heels. You growl, and the horse halts.

"Run!" You call over your shoulder as Frodo runs past you. You turn to the rider again, your blue-eyed glinting. You unhealthy a dagger that you've been hiding underneath your clothes. The horse snickers and pats its hoof against the ground while the rider hiss. "Get out of the way, she-dragon!" He hisses. You smirk. "Make me," and with that, you throw a blow against the horse's hooves, but as it starts to rear, you skip away, a burning pain etched into the rider's right foot as it was there, the dagger snitched it.

You ran all you could as you heard the rider shriek in anger and eat after you. Just ad you approach the others, Frodo leaps onto the raft. You leap on after. The Rider stops short of the water and once again squeals in frustration. Looking back, you see the Rider ride away, followed by two others. "How far to the nearest crossing?" Frodo asks as you help him up. "Brandywine Bridge: twenty miles," Merry says and starts to paddle.
