And Then Came A Great Fall.

Leo's POV:

I am so happy! I mean, I'm back with my friends, I'm alive, and most importantly, I have Calypso with me. Our arrival came as a pretty big shock to most of the people here, and that's what I like! Only a big entrance is a good entrance I say.

"You two can sleep here tonight if you want." Percy offers as he gestures between him and Annabeth.

.....Wait....have Percy and Annabeth finally moved in together? It sure did take 'em long enough!

"Thanks man, that would be great!' I reply.  I look at Annabeth just to make sure that she's okay with this offer, and she grins at me. Oh yeah, this is going to be awesome.

I put my hand on the small of Calypso's back and lead her into their home after Annabeth. And that's when I feel it.

It wasn't very obvious or painful at first, but slowly I began to feel a dull fire spread through my lower back. My vision began to go fuzzy. All of a sudden it was like a slegde hammer decided to have a disco party in my head ( all the dance moves included ). The room began to spin and and my tongue started to swell like a balloon. The floor had become horizontal and was approaching my face at a rather conscerning speed. And all at once, everything went black.

Percy's POV:

"Leo!" I catch Leo just before he hits his head on our hardwood flooring. I quickly rip off his shirt ( gently of course because the look of all that blood is mighty disconcerting to me ) and inspect his back. But before I can even process what wound or injury one of my best friends seems to have instantaniously procured, another thought rushes through my brain. I look up. It seems Annabeth has had the same thought. We leave Calypso who is hovering over Leo and stand up quickly.
Leo didn't just take a step and trip, he was shot or peirced or cut or something by someone.

Annabeth's POV:

The cool thing about having the guy you are in love with know exactly what you are thinking with one look is that it saves a lot of time and words, the bad thing? It's that the reason you have to have that look in the first place is A.) We are having to secretly make a plan to take out the bad guy, B.) One of our friends is in trouble and we have to act NOW, or C.) We are exchanging love notes between ourselves and trying avoiding looking like that one annoying, lovey-dovey couple. (Yeah, you know the one I'm talking about).

Unfortunatly, this instance called for reason B.

Percy and I look for anything or anyone suspicious. The party goers had pretty much cleared out execpt for a few people.

"Get down and stay down" I hiss. We didn't know if this injury was here before Leo came or was just given and I didn't want to take any chances. It was a warm day and I had opened the windows earlier for the party. Could the assailant have used one of those?

"Percy, the windows!"

"Okay, I'm going to go outside and see if I can see anybody. You stay here make sure everyone is okay and stays that way!" Percy half-whispers and charges out the back door.

Like heck, he doesn't really expect me just to sit back and let him have all the fun, does he?

"Calypso, stay with Leo and put pressure on the wound" I say as I take my turn rushing outside.

Dang it! I love our little cottage but it is surrounded by a forest and the trees are making it all to easy for however shot Leo to hide. Shot? Yes, shot, I now realize. My brain has processed the scene back in the house and I can remember there was a arrow sticking out of Leo's lower back. He should be fine( there are no important veins or arteries down there ) so I stop focusing on him. We need to find the person who did this.

"Aaaannaabeeeeth!" I immediatly perk up. That's Percy's Hey-I-Found-Something-But-We-Should-Probably-Handle-It-Together scream. I jog through the clearning of trees we call our backyard to Percy, who is looking into the western tree line. "Yeah?" I ask. All he needs to do is point and together we look at a line of footprints leading to the house, and then back into the woods.

Calypso's POV:

I am cradling Leo in my arms. I've seen and stiched up plenty of arrow wounds in my day and trust me when I say, I am not shaken by them anymore.. But all those injuries were on men who I had fallen in love with, while they left me on my island. I get it, I understand, I have learned how to deal with loss and I don't hold any resentment toward those men. But because this is the man that had chosen me while countless others had left, the thought of losing him was too painful to even think about. So anyway, I know how to deal with this wound. I properly and, very carefully, remove the arrow and shaft and apply pressure on the wound. Another thing about arrow wounds, while they sound scary, they are ridiculously easy to heal with a bit of healing magic. And that is exactly what I did. (What, did you think my dad left me all alone on an island of circulating dying men with no means to fix them? Psshhh, he's not that heartless.)

I get a washcloth to start wiping the blood away when I realize something is wrong. Something is terribly wrong.

The wound should be closed with only a little red line indicating that there had once been a gaping whole in Leo's back moments before. Instead, blood was seeping out of the wound at double the rate, dark purple lines started to spread out from the wound like snakes beneath the skin, and his entire body began to tremble.

I have never seen something like this before, it's as if my healing magic triggered a secondary attack from the injury itself. It's as if my trying to save Leo has only brought him this much closer to death. I don't know what to do. I start to panic, and my heart begins to beat faster. I don't know what to do. I don't know how to save him. I cannot lose Leo too. I don't know what to do and because of me, Leo is going to die.

I scream.

Percy's POV:

We are running through the forest and we can hear running steps ahead of us. But we are Percy and Annabeth. Of course we are gaining.

Its hard to see simply because the trees are blocking the sun from coming through. In front of us, we hear the snap of a branch breaking and the "uumph!" of a person falling. Wordlessly, we separate. I continue forward while Annabeth begins to curve ahead in order to flank this person. I see the outline of a person and start to sprint harder. I can hear their breathing like they aren't used to being chased. Hmmm, any demigod or mortal I know is used to being chased.....this "assassin" must be a newbie.

He's only 10 feet in front of me.

5 feet.

I leap, but I only grap his ankle. Wait a minute! Her ankle? No guy has shaved legs that are that smooth, trust me. My tug on her ankle momentarily slowed her down but now she is running at a full sprint with nothing in front of her. And that's when my beautiful girlfriend full on judo flips her to the ground.

"Annabeth!" I cry. I go up and smack her on the shoulder. "Judo flipping is our thing! How could you?!" I get her to crack a smile, but then we hear a snort of disgust. Right. We just caught this guy...girl...and now its time to find out who shot our friend. We look down as Annabeth turns over the body underneath her. I can't believe it. You could have told me it was Zeus and it would have been more beilevible than who I saw. Annbeth and I can only look at each other as we whisper together in disbelief,

"Drew?"

We only had time to look back at Drew before we heard a heart-wrenching scream explode from the house.
