Still Percy's POV:
Calypso slowly steps out from behind Leo's shadow.
"Uh, hi everyone" she calls out quietly.I glance at Leo, too amazed to speak just quite yet. I've been expecting this, I tell myself. I've been preparing myself for the moment when I would see Calypso again.
I could handle this.
Or could I?
Psshh, of course I was ready to see Calypso again! I mean, she saved my life! Plus, my relationship with Annabeth has never been better or stronger. But then again...the events that went down on that magical island were, well, magical...but no!
Now don't get me wrong here. I love Wise Girl more than blue food itself, and I would never have even the slightest doubts about us...the only thing I'm worried about is how Calypso might feel. When we were stranded together (okay, I was stranded, she had to deal with me floating up onto the shore of her home) I had made it very clear that I was taken and that was the reason I needed to leave. And she...well...she seemed heartbroken.
I just didn't want to hurt her another time. This whole train of thought occurred in less than a minute and when I focused back on the scene in front of me I saw Leo smiling (beaming even, if I used words like beaming) from ear to ear, looking like the happiest guy in the world.
He was looking down at the milky, timeless face with such open admiration that I felt I was invading an intimately personal moment.People were beginning to thaw from the shock. Jason, Hazel, and Frank (being the most polite out of our little crowd) were the first to step forward-shaking their heads as if to clear them- and hug the newcomers.
As more and more started forwards I took the chance to look at Calypso.
Right in the eyes.
And what I saw surprised me.Her dark almond-shaped eyes held no contempt or suspicion; no trace of heartbreak or betrayal lingered. All the guilt I felt about wounding her melted right off of me.
She was okay. Heck, she was better than okay! I never saw this side of her when I was with her on that island. The inward pain and struggle that had been so evident when I bid her farewell was completely and utterly gone.
Only the pure joy of being in love and the (illogical, in my opinion)fear of disappointing those who stood before her was left.I sighed a deep sigh. I hadn't even realized that I was holding my breath! Knowing that I was worried for nothing gave me the calm and confidence I needed to step close to the happy couple and embrace them.
"What even!" Piper screeched as she yanked Leo and Calypso away from my hug and the excited crowd. (Yes. She even managed to remove my firm grip! That girl is deceivingly strong!..)
"So I guess your Calypso! I wish I could say I know so much about you, but these two numbskulls," she points at me and Leo, "kept their little mouths tightly shut! It's so nice to finally meet you!"And with those six words, others must have picked up on some signal I missed because the semi-silence was abruptly broken with questions from everyone.
"When did the two of you first meet?"
"Where were you all this time?"
"Why did it take so long for you guys back?"
"How do you get your hair to look like that?"
"So are you two officially a couple by now?" Piper managed to raise her voice above the rest for that last one."Hey! hey! HEY!" Annabeth yelled as she wormed her way the through the building mass of bodies.
"Leo and Calypso just got back from what was probably a long, hard, exhausting journey. How about we give them they're space and let them get some rest? Yeah?"
Various people nod their heads."You two can sleep here tonight if you want." I say before anyone else can volunteer. I wanted to make sure I had the time and privacy to talk to Leo about the island, and how he got there!
"Thanks man, that would be great" Leo replies. And just like that the party-goers slowly start to drift off.
When Leo and Calypso turn to follow Annabeth further into our home, I see something that my eyes hasn't seen before. A giant redish-purple stain on Leo's lower back was spreading.
"Leo!" I shout as he crumples to the floor.
