Percy Jackson and the Seven: Life in New Rome

Chapter Dos

The lights are off.
The couches are tipped over.
The house looks deserted, when all of a sudden the room is ablaze with light and people start to emerge from every corner.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" they cry.

I blink, my eyes getting use to the light, and my brain trying to process what is happening. One more bright flash comes to life right in front of me and I hear Annabeth say "Oh Percy! If only you could see your face right now!" right before she collapses into a fit of laughter holding a camera.

I'm really trying to be mad at her for doing this and scaring me so bad but I just can't stifle the smile forming on my lips.
"Annabeth! You freaked me out with that phone call! You could've been dying for all that I know!" I scold.

"I'm not apologizing, that was just too perfect for me to be sorry! You really should've seen your face!" she laughs.
I sigh before I start to laugh along with the rest of the crowd in the room. I see Frank and Hazel, Grover and Juniper, Jason and Piper an-...Piper!
"Piper McLean! You are in so much trouble!" I say as I playfully shake her back and forth. "I can't believe you convinced Annabeth to be part of something so devious and deceitful!"
"Uh Percy," she replies, "the only role I had in this 'plot' was making that call. Your sweet, innocent, she-can-do-no-wrong girlfriend planned this whole thing."

I felt my brows raise in surprise!

I turn around to see Annabeth grinning a huge mischievous grin and high-fiving a Leo who just walked through the door.
I have to do a double take. I look at Leo questioningly and than turn my gaze at the others in the room.
"You see him too, right guys?"

"Happy birthday man!" Leo says as he runs up and hugs me (It was a very manly hug, okay? not one of your girlie cheek to cheek type things. NO. This was a spectacular display of male affection without becoming all mushy-feely....or that's what I told myself after we let go....)

"Dude! When did you get back?! Where you?" I punch him. "That was for making us all worry and wonder! It's been 6 months! 6 months you've be gone, missing, WHATEVER! Do you know what can happen is 6 months? A LOT!"

"Sorry guys, I know I should've left a note or something, but I just had to go back. I had to go back to her. Everyone, there is someone I want you to meet!"
Leo puts his hand out the still open door and another, smaller more feminine hand, locks with his. "Guys, meet Calypso."
