It is the start of fifth grade. I have been doing good in math, science, and history. But, reading... has gotten so much worse. I can no longer remember what I was reading. I can no longer understand what I'm reading. I don't really know why.
I told my mom about it and she said that if I was passing the class then I would be fine. But I wasn't passing the class. I was getting D's and F's. I couldn't even get a C. I never told my mom because I was scared I'd get into trouble.
One day, my mom got a call. It was my reading teacher. She hung up on my teacher after he told her my grades. She had a very angry look on her face. She asked me why my grades were so bad. I told her that I don't understand anything we were learning.
She then decided to get me tested to see what was wrong. I went to the phycologist and he had me to read a short story. He asked me questions about the story. I didn't know any of the answers. I had to do more testing. The testing lasted three weeks.
The last day of testing my mom came in the room with me. The phycologist told her that I have a reading disability, a learning disability, and a processing disability.
He then wrote...
Reading Disability- You can't remember what you read.
Learning Disability- Need to learn it more than once and learn it in different ways.
Processing Disability- You can't understand most things. He said that it could never go away. That I would have them forever. That one little piece of paper changed my life forever...
