Surprised, you turned to look behind you. In doing so, you came face to face with a tall, dark skinned boy, who was grinning from ear to ear. Your first thought was that it was Camilo messing with you but you could see him dancing with his his little brother. This guy looked vaguely familiar but you didn't know where from. "Yes, I'm Y/n. Do I know you?" The boy's smile faltered and he shrugged his shoulders. "I guess not." He looked almost disappointed for some reason and you couldn't help but feel a little bad for him. "Well what's your name?" You asked. His bright smile returned as he introduced himself. "I'm Julio Ruiz, you bring my family food from your bakery sometimes!" A light lit up in your head. That was where you knew him from. "Oh right!" You exclaimed, "I remember now, we've spoken a couple times before right?" Julio nodded, he seemed happy, almost excited, that you knew who he was. His dark green eyes twinkled as you reached out to shake his hand.
You had never seen him from this close before. It was funny, his father and two little brothers all had fluffy, curly hair but his was completely strait and shiny. You guessed he took after his mother, who was from the city. Today, Julio was dressed in a dark teal poncho, embroidered with purple dragonflies and squares. The overall look was extremely fancy. Julio himself had an air of 'refined city boy' around him, rather prestigious and high class. His family were rather wealthy though so maybe that was why. You were snapped out if your thoughts when the boy brought your hand up to his lips and gave it a quick kiss. Surprised, you squeaked, that was unexpected to say the least! Was that an urban area greeting? You laughed awkwardly and he simply smiled back at you. "You look nice, by the way." He gestured to your dress. It was only one that had been buried in the back of your wardrobe for the past nine months because you forgot you owned it but he didn't need to know that. "Thank you, so do you." You replied. The boy thanked you and began to explain the origin of his outfit. Apparently the fabric was from over seas and was special or something, who knew clothes could have whole entire backstories! You chatted for awhile and found yourself enjoying Julio's company. He was a pretty nice guy, you decided.
"Y/n, would you like to...""Hey Y/n, you were hiding over here were you?!" Camilo ran up to you and flung his arms around you. Slightly caught off guard, it took you a couple seconds to realise what had just happened. Once you came to your senses, you returned the shape shifter's embrace. It was odd that he had hugged your now though, usually he only did if you hadn't seen eachother in a while. The boy gave you a tight squeeze which caused you to gasp out loud. You were about to restart your flower war from earlier when you realised that Julio was still stood, staring at both of you in mild confusion. As the Madrigal let you go, you flashed the other boy a quick smile. Camilo looked over at him too. "Who's your friend?" He asked, looking the boy up at down.
"Oh this is Julio Ruiz, from the village." You told him. Both boys stared at eachother for longer than you would've expected before greeting one another. It was a stiff, awkward greeting but, then again, they had just met so that wasn't surprising. Julio opened his mouth to say something but Camilo beat him to it. "Come Mi hermosa, let's dance!" He took you by both your hands and twirled you over to the other side of the room. Wait, what did he just call you?!You had no idea that Camilo was such a good dancer! He lifted once of your hands above your head and spun you around, your skirt and hair flying out behind you. Closing your eyes, you laughed as the cool air whipped your face. You could hear your friend chuckling along with you which only made your smile widen more. Suddenly, you came to a stop and found yourself crashing into Camilo's chest. He gave you a cheeky grin as you hit his shoulder lightly, a small giggle escaping you.
"When did you learn to dance?" The boy laughed awkwardly and scratched the back of his neck. "Luisa gave me some pointers." He looked away, embarrassed as you reached up to pat his head.
"Awww how cute," you teased, "you've been having dance lessons!" Camilo huffed, his cheeks tinted pink. "So what, I think it's a pretty cool skill!" He glanced down at you and you rolled your eyes with a smile. "It is, silly." You flicked his forehead, "I think that it's awesome that you want to learn how to dance! You're good at it anyway." At that, his signature smirk returned. "Yeah, I am a natural!" You had the feeling that it would probably be best not to stroke his ego anymore than you already had so, with a swish of your skirt, you pulled him back into a dance. The two of you danced together for a while before mutually deciding that it was time to get some food. The table was piled high with the snacks that Julieta and Rosa had made. You bit into a papa rellena and immediately felt your feet stop aching. You loved Julieta's gift and these little potato snacks were so good! Looking around, you made sure that no one was watching before popping four or five more of them into your mouth. Despite burning your tounge a little in the process, a big smile stuck to your face. You needed to get your 'mother' to make these more often. "Eat this!" You shoved a piping hot papa rellena in Camilo's face and waved it about a bit. He looked amused as he took it from your fingers and ate it. He hummed, signaling that he liked it. "Okay, now you try this." The boy held out to you a small cake looking treat which you took a large bite out of. "Oohh that's nice!" You grinned, instantly forgetting about it as you turned your attention to some chocolate covered cream puffs. Camilo shrugged and finished off your half eaten cake. No point in wasting it right?
After your mini feast, you went over and danced with Antonio and Dolores, spoke to Luisa for a while and finally found Mirabel who was looking much happier. By then it had gotten quite late and everyone has begun to head home. Rosa had left a couple hours ago to sort out the shop and now there was just you left. Antonio was telling you all about his bird friend who was apparently called Paola. The casita was much more quiet now and all the earlier excitement had diffused into a calm and peaceful atmosphere. The moon rose high above the mountains, basking the encanto in its silver glow. The young boy before you suddenly yawned and rubbed his eyes. "It's late. You should probably get some sleep." You smiled down at him and he nodded. "You too, Y/n. Goodnight." And with that, he disappeared inside his newly formed room. With a yawn of your own, you ventured down the stairs. Mirabel had told you that you could stay the night if you wanted to but you had declined. Rosa would be worried if you didn't come home. Waving goodbye to your weary friends, you made your way back to the village. As you glided through the starlit valley, a chilled wind howled around you, biting at your arms. The hairs on the back of your neck stood up and you suddenly felt extremely uneasy. Almost as if someone was watching you. Slightly scaird, you pulled your thin, cotton cardigan tighter around your shoulders and ran the rest of the way home. Your house was warm due to the crackling embers of a burnt out fire. The feeling of paranoia immediately subsided and you sighed with relief. It was just your imagination. Happy and cozy, you changed into your pajamas and climbed into bed.
You had enjoyed today. It would be a day you looked back on fondly for a very long time...
DID SOMEONE JUST LOOK THROUGH YOUR WINDOW?!?!
