Why Are We Afraid?

[Nine]

I'm not happy.

I came to terms with my fathers situation, I came to terms with being in foster care.

But, I'm still not happy.

I should be happy, my foster parents are the best, my new life is the best, Soobin is the best, Kai is the best...

But, I can't be happy.

I just don't know why.

"So, I've got two dresses for you" my foster mom speaks holding up two dresses on hangers.

On the right is a dark red spaghetti strapped dress and on the left is a off the shoulder, baby blue dress. Both coming down to about my knees.

"I think the blue one would go best with your skin" she smiles. I smile, "it's my favorite one" I nod.

"Great! Let's get ready" she chimes ushering me out of bed.

Today is homecoming.

I wasn't going to go at first but Kai and Soobin talked me into it since it's our last homecoming.

/ Soobin's pov \

As I look around my room for my watch, I come across a small bag of pills with about three inside beside the watch.

I hold up the bag swallowing the lump in my throat.

I squeeze my eyes shut taking a deep breath, "hey, you ready?" I hear Kai.

I open my eyes turning to the door, he looks at the bag in my hand then back to me.

"I wasn't gonna take them" I shake my head, "I didn't say that" he shrugs.

"But, do you...want them?" He narrows his eyes. I look back at the pills furrowing my brows.

I poke out my lip then toss the bag to Kai, "no, it's not worth it" I shrug.

He smiles, "yeah, that's what I'm talking about!" He beams happily making me smile.

"I'll meet you in the car" he nods. I nod and he walks off.

I pick up the watch slipping it on my wrist with a smile then walking out.

/ Yeoni's pov \

"You look amazing, Yeoni" Mrs. Choi smiles gently patting my shoulder, I smile as a thank you.

"Okay, not to late girly. Call if you need anything!" She chimes. I nod, "thanks" I smile opening the car door.

"Of course, sweetie".

I walk into the gym where everyone is, taking a deep breath I look around for Kai or Soobin.

But, I can't find them.

So, I just stand against the wall after shooting them both a quick text message.

From: Kai: hey! Sorry, we are here now :)

I look up seeing Kai and Soobin walk through the doors looking around for me.

They both look nice.

I smile to myself before walking over to meet them, "hey, Ni!" Kai hugs me.

I hug him back smiling as we part I make eye contact with Soobin.

He looks different.

When I first met him, he looked as if his world was ending.

But now, his smile is back.
