cassius wolfram is as close to royal as one can be without a drop of it in his veins. born the son of one of the high nobles, cassius spent his youth in elunore palace, running side-by-side with the crown prince from tutoring to sword-play to council meetings.
his entire world was flipped on its head however, when one day his father, gabriel wolfram, was accused of plotting to assassinate the king. supposedly caught in the act, cassius didn't even have time to say his goodbyes before the man was executed. with no mother or extended family to speak of, cassius was nearly left out in the cold, but the queen and general nellwyn claytone saw his potential, and allowed the young boy to stay in the castle. his name was no longer associated with nobility, but it didn't matter to the young boy, so long as he was allowed to stay and train with his best friend.
in the years that followed, cassius became somewhat of a special subject to nellwyn, who took his training personally, never relenting or going easy on the young boy. he became ruthless, lethal and stealthy, trained in combat with all weapons and none at all. he was sent often on 'training' missions to deal with ancient and magical beasts and earned the name 'monster slayer' among the common people. but his main duty was always to the prince, and when beckett was old enough to begin travelling on his own diplomatic missions, cassius became his right-hand and guard. the two have remained almost inseparable since.

cassius wolfram is a man of many titles; ex-noble, son of a traitor, monster slayer, kingsguard and more, he wears them all like masks, allowing only a select few to see the human man beneath them. this makes him hard to read, an advantage in battle, and unpredictable, a never ending frustration to his future wife inarya.
to the public, cassius is stoic and calm. he is as unshakeable and solid as the trebyld mountains and when he sets his mind to something he becomes unstoppable. it is a trait he was taught by nellwyn, his mentor and mother-figure, to quiet his mind and never show doubt even in dire circumstances.
to those closest to cassius, his public facade seems almost like a joke. in private the young guard seems to shed ten years, and can be found laughing, smiling and joking freely with his friends. he is partial to an ale, although three is enough to floor him, and tells stories as well as any bard in the realm. he also has been known to pluck the strings of a lute, but his voice is akin to a wildcat's nails on stone.
