ella anthony always dreamed of being an inventor. after growing up in a small midwest town, she took her first opportunity to move away and gain a degree in mechanical engineering. eventually this lead to a high profile job in ardor city designing all types of mechanical weapons and armour. most of it was for the us military, but occasionally the rich would buy custom personal objects as well.
only a few months into her new life, ella's world was shattered one night when she stayed late in the workshop and was unlucky enough to be in the way of a group of thugs looking to steal weapons for sale on the black market. they beat her nearly to death and left her bleeding on the workshop floor for the opening crew to find. there wasn't much left of her face except a bloody pulp.
it took months before ella was able to walk and talk normally again. she regained vision in one eye, but the other was lost forever. when she finally got to return to work, she vowed to never be caught so weak again. she began to train, build muscle, and saved every scrap of tech she could to build herself an outfit. she made mechanical eyes to make up for her lack of one, build a suit capable of fluid movement and strong protection, and within a year, the hero 'the spider' was born.
