the alarie family has ambiguous origins in ardor city. nobody's sure where they originally came from, just that they showed sometime just before the city's transition into a scientific capital, and poured a lot of funding into building it up. they founded 'alarie industries', a research hub for human genetics and mutations, of which his father is now head scientist, and his mother ceo.
fin and his twin sister, josie, were trained for take over from the moment they were born. they took to their inheritance with grace, becoming veritable genius' and socialites. both twins attended prestigious universities abroad, completing masters degrees in science and business, before returning home to work for the company.
fin, fresh from college and flush with cash, preferred attending galas and banquets while josie stuck to the lab. he would often find her there late at night and on weekends, until one day he received a panicked call from her in the middle of a large fundraising event. he abandoned the event and rushed to the lab to see josie unconscious and then— white.
regaining consciousness weeks later in a hospital, fin learned that something had blown the lab and a whole city block to ash. and josie was gone. soon after he also had a new problem to deal with — solar manipulation. full of anger and confusion, he flexed his new powers by pulling off heists and crimes nobody should be capable of. he designed a new identity — pyro, and dropped out of the family business. to the world he appears like another entitled rich kid, and he continued to keep up his socialite appearances, hiding all his schemes and plans in a shitty apartment room he rents out under a different name.
