Chapter 12
Celaena POV"Champion. My champion. I have a new target for you." A slight pause from the king as she felt his stare on him. She'd been to the black market to purchase dye for her hair in attempt to distinguish herself from Aedion. Nothing to drastic. But hopefully the darker coloring of her hair wouldn't remind him of anyone.
"This new target is going to be difficult. But he's been seen helping the rebels. Helping them. Escape. He'd the new heir for the King of Assassins. You might remember him from your time at the guild."
A slight smirk formed upon Celaenas face. Finally a target she could actually kill. She'd been wanting to hunt down Tern or Harding for what they did to Sam. What they allowed to be done to her..
Lifting her head a fraction so she could see the kings face. He leaned forward and the name they left his lips almost brought her down to her knees.
"Sam Cortland."
Chaol POV
He watched as Celaena tore out of the throne room after she'd been dismissed. No doubt the king thought her just eager.
But Chaol knew the difference. That name. She assumed that Sam had been killed. But he was alive. She spent over a year in the slave camp for him. Because she tried to avenge him.
Chaol went to her rooms to see if she would actually speak to him. But all he found was Dorian and Aedion.
Confirming everything.
Aedion POV
His cousin wanted to do what?
When Aedion found himself waiting his her rooms the crowned prince was the last person he ever expected to show up looking for her as well.
Together they discussed how they would accomplish what Celaena wanted to do. The rumor that the king had somehow blocked magic was true. Only Dorian had access to his own.
"She thinks it has something to do with the clock towers. I-" the door open to her rooms. Expecting his cousin Aedion looked up to only find the captain. By the look of him he figured it out. Who Celaena truly was.
Chaol looked at him. Then back to his friend. And to Dorian he spoke. "I want to help." Dorian could only nod when the chamber doors opened for a second time. With Celaena barreling through them.
"AEDION." He stood up immediately. She looked furious. "Come with me."
She led the three of them to the sparring rooms. She tied her hair up and grab a wooden staff. She was clearly using him to release whatever anger she had built up.
Rowan POV
Whatever had sent the heir off on a torrent. Had Rowan memorized by her ferocity as she sparred with her cousin. She didn't hold back. Not even when The Wolf of the North stumbled. Not even when he landed a blow so hard on her thigh her leg should have snapped. They moved like Fae.
Lorcan came up behind him. Together they watch the cousins eat each other to a pulp. Then they kept going.
Finally the heir tripped the wolf of the north and held the staff to his throat. Aedion smiled at her with bloodstained teeth. Then he spotted them over her shoulder.
The heir turned and met his eyes. Turquoise Blue with a gold band that resembled fire met his.
He saw everything she was and would be.
"Fuck."
Authors note.
