The sympathetic nurse from earlier walked in, and a young man trailed behind her. You felt your cheeks heat up as you laid your eyes on his form. He had white-blonde hair and icy blue eyes that you somehow recognized. Part of you wanted to act like any normal person would when they see people. Ask questions. Start conversations. But there was another part of you- a very big part- that held your tongue. So far, you had figured one thing out about yourself. You definitely were not a people-person.

“You’ll need to stay in the country while you recover from your… er…situation…. The man who found you is legally responsible to take care of you, since we don’t know if you have any relatives.” She stopped to gesture to the man next to her. “This is Emil Steilsson. He, quite literally, saved your life.” She said with admiration. The man, Emil, looked away, a light-pink blush gently brushing his cheeks. He obviously wasn’t enjoying the attention. Your mind flashed back to the different movies you had watched about this sort of situation. The victim of the memory loss freaked out when they saw someone they didn’t know. They got angry and started screaming. You didn’t understand why.

“Um, I’m really sorry for asking this, but can you tell me what country I’m in and which country I’m from?” You asked shyly.

“Já. You are in Iceland. The plane that you were in was an English airline, so we figure that you’re from England.” She replied.

“Oh, okay… W-Why am I so injured? What exactly happened to me?” You, again, shyly asked. You weren’t used to voicing your own thoughts so openly. The nurse sighed.

“The flight you were in crashed. There was an issue with the engine. The plane was a couple of miles away from the airport, but it was already too damaged and it crashed rather violently. You were, supposedly, thrown from the plane and into the snow. You… were the only survivor.” She explained sadly.

“…Oh…” You commented after a long pause. Your mind was buzzing. How did you survive both the plane crash and the cold snow? Especially with your… Wait…

“Do you by any chance know if I have a body temperature issue? I mean, I have this feeling that something like that is wrong with me. I’m just wondering how I survived if I do have it…” You wondered aloud.

“Well, actually you do have a lower body temperature than normal, but your body seems to be used to it. And to answer your other question, Emil rushed you straight here after finding you. Since there was no delay, we were able to quickly bring your temperature back up… Are you remembering this?” She explained and then asked.

“I… I can’t exactly explain it. It’s like my body is remembering things as if nothing has changed and my mind is trying to connect the dots without knowing what order to connect them in or what the memories are supposed to look like. It’s extremely confusing…” You answered, trying to find the right words to describe how you were feeling.

“Well… I am sure you will start to remember things soon.” She said and walked over to you to unbuckle your restraints. She helped you out of the hospital bed, where you proceeded to stumble and began to fall. The nurse tried and failed to catch you, but luckily there was someone else there to keep you from falling. Emil caught you with surprising ease. You gripped his shirt lightly to regain your balance and he had his arms around your waist.

“Ætti ég kalla hjólastól? (Should I call for a wheelchair?)” The nurse asked Emil, concerned.

“Nei, ég mun bera hana. (No, I will carry her.)” The Icelandic man replied in his native tongue. He proceeded to slip one arm under both of your legs and the other firmly placed under your lower back, curving around your waist. He picked you up bridal style and you immediately began to blush. You could feel your entire body tense up at the unfamiliar touch and you could tell that your body didn’t have a lot of experience in physical touch or relationships.
