NETWORK CONNECTION ( episode five )
"well, adrianna's 18, correct?" blake hart, mindy's father asked.
she nodded, "about to be 19."
"if we can get her on face-call, and i get to-", he used air quotes, "-meet her, then maybe you can go by yourself."
she jumped from her seat, looking back and forth at her parents, "are you guys serious?" mindy beamed. her chest soared with excitement; a chance to be parent free in england at sixteen. "are you guys really serious?!"
the hart's nodded, and mindy jumped into them for a group hug. "I'll ask if she can facetime tonight."
within a couple hours, mindy's parents huddled behind her PC's monitor, looking through the pages of flights to london with a layover in boston. adrianna was in a discord call with the three, mindy's facecam aimed to only show her parents as they conversed.
"okay, I found it," mindy hummed.
"perfect!" adrianna smiled. "do you guys want to buy them now?"
"do we get to choose our seats?" mindy asked absentmindedly.
"when you pay for multiple seats then it will seat those people together, but that's it," delores explained.
"damn."
"we should buy them now, adrianna is right," blake nodded, clicking [buy now].
adrianna nodded, and the sound of her clicking and typing away at her keyboard filled the silence.
"you only have to buy the ticket for yourself, hun," delores nodded at her daughter, hand in hand with blake.
"thank you guys so much. i love you guys so fucking much—excuse my language! but seriously I am so appreciative that you guys are letting me do this!" mindy covered her smile with her hand, bouncing her knees up and down.
"of course," her dad smiled.
"we trust you, and we know why you do this. you deserve a reward," her mom reached out and grabbed mindy's hand, tears welling up in her eyes.
"we love you," blake nodded.
"i'm gonna take such good care of her, she's gonna wish you guys came with her instead!" adrianna smiled, and her parents laughed.
"thank you so much, it was really great to meet you," delores smiled. blake agreed, the two standing up and shuffling over to hug mindy. she turned off her facecam and embraced them.
"thank you, thank you, thank you," she whispered over and over again.

mindy's eyes widened as she looked over the messages she missed while she was in the shower. "what the fuck," she mumbled in disbelief. she immediately checked her twitch follow count and yup, 170k followers and still climbing. her eyes bugged at the screen, struggling to grasp that amount of people.
mindy took her numb hands and somehow unlocked her phone, fleeing to twitter and checking her notifications.
hundreds of congratulations on her milestone. she held her phone to chest, tears cascading down her cheeks. tears of joy, of so much thankfulness she could burst. but mindy knew she couldn't stay faceless forever—she didn't want to stay faceless forever. this comfort bubble of privacy would soon pop, and she cried in fear of what that could bring.
mindy opened discord from her phone, ringing adrianna almost immediately.
"MINDY! CONGRATS HOLY SHIT!" adri exclaimed into the phone. "BRO! and your parents bought your ticket earlier! dude this day is so perfect, i'm so proud of you!" mindy laughed, covering the sound of her crying for a moment. but adrianna noticed, "are you crying?"
"today has just been so good, but also overwhelming. i know i'm ready but i'm scared."
"it's okay to be scared."
"I need to hit 200k by april 8th."
"the day before tommy's birthday?... what's your plan?"
"if I don't show my face soon then I think I'll become too pussy to ever do it," mindy nodded. "so face reveal for 200k. i'll vlog the brighton trip. what do you think?"
adrianna squealed, "that is such a good idea! holy shit! i love it! we've got 19 days, but WE CAN DO THIS!"
mindy laughed, "thank you. for everything." a silence swept over the two momentarily.
