Within a few seconds of waking up, Ray's eyes were immediately drawn to the galaxy on his wrist. He was sure that by the end of the day he wouldn't even need to look at it anymore; he would have it etched into every corner of his brain soon. And somehow this thought didn't scare him. If anything, it just made him more curious about his soulmate.
He had noticed that his soulmate liked to draw by the little doodles that would appear on his fingers and hands at any point during the day. Or night as he found out when he woke up as there was a new moon doodle on his thumb that he definitely did not remember seeing the day before. Clearly, this person liked space. And that got him thinking about them. What were they like? Were they smart? Were they easy to talk to? Were they rude? Oh god, what if they were rude? Ray wouldn't be able to handle anyone who wasn't nice. He could barely have one small conversation with the person at the till in Waterstones when he bought a new book and the people there were all nice towards him because he went there so much.
Before he knew it, he was standing outside his locker at school, placing his beloved literature folder neatly in the corner. Despite his best effort, he couldn't focus on much. He was too tired and his thoughts were constantly searching for any kind of clue as to who his soulmate was. But he failed to notice someone aimlessly and practically running down the corridor and straight into his back. And then suddenly, he was being pulled down to the floor.
"Ouch!" He heard someone say, and confusion spread through him when he didn't feel any pain, despite having landed on the floor. Except, he hadn't landed on the floor. The dawning realisation brought a blush to his face in a mix of embarrassment and awkwardness. Scrambling to stand up, he heard the person who he was laying on top of a few awkward moments ago speak, "I'm so sorry, are you okay?"
The fact the voice sounded feminine made his blush even darker but he kept his voice quiet to prevent his embarrassment from showing. "Yeah, yeah I'm okay. It was my fault that you fell, I didn't realise I was in the way," he apologised, internally cringing at how soft his voice was.
"No, no I wasn't looking where I was going and I bumped into you and dragged you down, god, I'm so sorry," the person rambled apologies and explanations and Ray struggled to hold in his laugh, even though he felt just as awkward as this person clearly did.
Turning around to see if the person was okay, Ray properly saw them. And by all the greatest romance novels in existence was that the moment that Ray's heart skipped a beat. She was so....pretty.
