"So the rumors were true... It is gigantic."
A young female newt was staring at the gates of Newtopia, the capital city. Her feet were in the water as she was trying to keep her dress from getting soaked. She was carrying a large brown backpack stuffed with the few clothes she had, as well as a couple of hair accessories. She also had her favorite books with her. Her blond hair was pretty short and fluffy, with a white bow on the side. Her skin was a light blue, and she was wearing a simple brown dress with a corset on top.
She looked at the top of the gates, getting impatient.
"Hey, are you gonna open the gates or what?"
A newt opened a little window, peeking outside.
"Urgh, tourists."
One of the doors opened a bit, enough for her to get in. She did just that and looked in awe at the town. Beautiful statues and fountains everywhere, as well as restaurants, shops, and exciting places to visit. However, she was promptly brought back to reality with a quick glance in her almost empty wallet.
"Right... Let's hope that job pays well.", she mumbled and started to walk towards the castle. After a little chat with the guards, she finally managed to get inside. She was greeted by a gorgeous yet quiet palace. Nobody to show her the way or anything. She hesitantly walked down the hallway, before someone went to her.
"Can I help you, miss?"
"Actually, you can. I'm Cassidy, the new librarian.", she replied, looking at the stranger. They had light seafoam skin along with almost shoulder-length dark blue hair. Their dress had multiple shades of pink and purple as well as some kind of see-through shawl, looking pretty and expensive. Cassidy couldn't help but stare at that gorgeous dress, she wished she had something like that...
"Ah yes, right on time. Come this way.", they replied and lead her to the library. It was big and fancy just like the rest of the castle. There was also a door leading to a spare room. There were -obviously- tons of books, old and new. It would take a while to read and organize everything, but she didn't mind. It was her job after all, and Cassidy had always liked to organize.
"Here we are, your new workspace. "
"Thank you, miss...?"
"Lady Olivia, royal advisor to King Andrias.", she replied politely, "The room over there will be your bedroom. Ask a servant if you need anything, I tend to be pretty busy."
Cass nodded and opened the door. The room was quite cozy and would make a nice home with some decorating. The window gave a nice view of the whole town. She put her bag down and walked back to Olivia.
"What was your last job?", the advisor asked then, taking a short look at the other woman's (quite frankly) underwhelming dress.
"Librarian in Ribbitvale. I've actually mostly worked in libraries and archives."
"I see.", she replied and started to leave. She stopped at the door though.
"By the way, before I leave. I have something to tell you.", she said as she turned around, "I'll come here pretty often to borrow books, just so you know. But most importantly, it is very likely that the king will come here too."
Cassidy looked surprised, her tail wagging a little bit. She's heard of the king, rumors of him being a giant. There was a statue of him in town too.
"Oh, ok... What about it?"
"I must ask you to watch yourself in his presence. Proper etiquette is something we value in this castle.", Olivia answered with a strict look on her face. Great. That woman was probably the cold and annoying kind.
"Of course, milady.", she replied, "I'll be on my best behavior."
"Good. Enjoy your stay.", she said as she left the library.
Finally, Cass was alone. She began to unpack her stuff, putting the books on the shelves. They were mostly adventure novels. The books weren't in the best condition, since she had them for years. She also put her clothes in the closet, but couldn't stop thinking about Olivia's dress. So pretty... She sighed, looking at her own dresses. Dull colors, just a few bows here and there. Was that a hole? How didn't she notice that before! That wardrobe was so depressing... She'd do anything for a gorgeous princess dress, or a fancy ball with delicious food... Cassidy shook her head, back to her senses. She had work to do, now wasn't the time to think of silly childhood dreams...
She started to take a look around her new home, there was a little kitchen with some tableware. She made herself a nice cup of tea as if to celebrate arriving in Newtopia, before sitting down near the window. The city may have been vibrant and full of life, but since her room was high above the ground, she wasn't too bothered by the city noises.
Finally, she was in the capital. She was living in the castle now! She worked so hard, all those years studying and getting jobs all over the land... But for what? Somehow things didn't feel right. Sure, she had a great job, but she wasn't sure what her goal in life was. She pretty much gave up on romance a while ago, and she barely had any coppers... So love and money seemed out of the picture. At least she had her books and a roof over her head. Right now, all she had to do was do great at her new job and eventually find a new goal. Who knows, maybe a golden opportunity would come to her.
