After a long day of work, King Andrias left the throne room, his tail dragging on the floor behind him. He had spent the whole day listening to complaints, solving problems, and taking care of so. Much. Paperwork. He shortly rubbed his temples, looking tired and on edge. He needed a break, and he needed it quick. But before he could get into his silky pajamas and snore so loud the whole castle would shake, he walked to the library for his newest little routine: visiting Cassidy. Seeing her cute little face always put him in a good mood. As he opened the door, she was busy watering the plants.
"Andrias!"
She put the watering can down and went to greet him as her feet pitter-pattered on the library floor. Cass hugged his leg with a big happy smile, her tail wagging excitedly.
"Hey, you.", the monarch softly murmured and kneeled, gently petting her head, "How was your day?"
"Meh, the usual. What about yours?"
Her question was answered by a tired groan.
"Today was... a lot. I just want to stay in bed."
"Aww, sorry big guy. In that case, I won't keep you from going to bed any longer."
Suddenly, an idea bloomed in Andrias' mind.
"My dear, what if you spent the night with me?", he asked with a grin, "I always love your company. Besides, I think it's time you finally see my bedroom."
The librarian was taken aback, but what a wonderful idea that was!
"I'd love to Andy! We could read... relax... Oh my, sharing a bed...", she said with a dreamy smile. Her lover chuckled and stood up, his hands on his hips.
"Then it's settled!"
"But what if someone sees me entering your room? We wouldn't be that much of a secret anymore.", his lover replied, sounding worried. Andrias began to think.
"I think I have an idea. Go get your nightgown, will you?"
She seemed intrigued but nodded and went into her room to get changed. When she came back, she was wearing her light blue nightgown, holding a little vanity case. The king offered his hand, on which she carefully stepped.
"Here's the plan. You'll stay hidden in my beard until we reach my room."
Cassidy let out a little laugh, cautiously snuggling inside his beard.
"That's a great idea! And so soft too!"
Andrias chuckled and left the library, walking towards his bedroom. None of the newts on his way seem to notice the hidden librarian. Once they reached their destination, he closed the door behind him and gently took Cassidy out of his beard.
"Here you go ma'am.", He said with a playful grin and put her on his bed. It was king-sized - literally. She looked intimidated by the bed's size.
"Wow, that thing is gigantic! Now I'm kinda worried you'd accidentally crush me while we sleep.", She joked, but did seem a little bit nervous. Andrias ran his fingers through his beard, thinking.
"How about... You sleep on my second pillow, next to my head? I can get you a regular-sized blanket."
"Oh that looks comfy! Thanks Andrias."
He smiled, gently petting her head.
"Oh, how about we play a game of flipwart? We've never played together!"
The librarian lightly frowned.
"Sorry, it's not really my thing. I like board games with less... Strategy."
