Y/N awoke much later to the loud, incoherent, and slightly southern whispers of a certain Cubot. Of course, it wasn't that important, so they ended up laying there for a bit longer. Just a few more minutes, they thought. After all, the doctor would get them if he needed them.

"Quiet, you two," Eggman groaned, "Y/N's in the back corner attempting to rest, and neither of you are helping." He cursed to himself, tapping away at the control panel until it gave him the information he wanted. The screen lit up, and in turn, so did the doctor's face. The only thing that brought him back to the room was Orbot's complaining.

"Us two? If anything, I've been working on keeping Cubot quiet!" Orbot shook his head. "Every time his voice chip malfunctions, it's like he's a completely different robot." Eggman swore it sounded sympathetic, but it could have just been Orbot's irritated tone.

"Apologies, partner," Cubot sighed from atop a crate. "Doctor, partner, cowpoke. Yer complainin' ain't gonna get us anywhere, now is it? If I was you, which I ain't, I'd mosey on back up to the top. The shakin's been to a halt fer ages now."

"I can't take this anymore," Orbot whined. "How did we get his voice chip to work last time? You must do something about this. Maybe Y/N can? I can get the-" The robot was cut off by the doctor's shout.

"Well, how would you like it if neither of you had voice chips, eh?" The doctor slammed a fist on the control panel, causing Cubot to fall to the ground with a clunk. "At this point, it would be almost serene to have one day where the two of you didn't give me the urge to turn you into scrap metal."

"HEY!" Cubot called out with a goofy, scratchy voice. "OOH! My voice is back to normal! Thank goodness-ess!" Eggman brought a palm to his face, shaking his head irately. What was he going to do with those two? Well, more particularly, that one. Maybe completely removing his voice chip would be best. No, I can't do that, Eggman thought, Y/N seemed upset the last time I decided that...agh! Since when did that matter? Get it together, Ivo. Speaking of them, maybe it was time to get them up. Eggman brought a finger to his lips, staring directly into the blue lights Cubot used as eyes. He stepped towards the blanketed figure on the floor, leaning down to give them a soft nudge. They looked so peaceful...so perfect. Ivo! Wake them up already, you fool!

"Eh...Y/N? We're about to leave." Eggman tapped a finger to Y/N's shoulder, waking them instantly. They sat up, turning and tilting their neck with a furrowed brow. "Are you well?"

"Yes," Y/N sighed, "I'm fine. Glad to hear Cubot's voice chip is back to normal." They gave the doctor a half smile as he turned to give Cubot a death glare from behind his glasses. They stood up with the help of the doctor, taking a moment to relax their shoulders a bit. "Is it safe to go back up?"

"Yes, I presume so." Eggman walked towards the control panel with Y/N following behind, stopping at the giant monitor. Y/N attempted to figure out what it was; however, there was not much to go off of besides a jumble of numbers and a strange chart. "You see, these energy readings only disappeared a few minutes after we went down here. During my confrontation with Sonic and his allies, the readings were practically undetectable,"

"But still there." Y/N yawned, starting to understand as they pointed to one of the lower points in the graph.

"Precisely." Eggman twisted a finger around his mustache, using his other hand to shut down the control panel completely. "I believe it's safe to leave at this point. Perhaps we'll be able to find out just what caused such high energy readings."

"Sounds fine to me."

"Orbot! Cubot!" Eggman shouted, opening the door. "We're leaving." The two bots scrambled out of the room, silently fighting over who would lead the way. One thing was for certain: neither of them were too keen on doing so. "Ugh, those two...I still don't understand why I keep them around." He waited for Y/N to step out, before closing the door behind them. The four found that cleaning up the mess that was left behind would be quite a chore; broken machinery and glass from the lights that had fallen littered almost every hallway down there, with hardly any room to safely move.

"I suppose I'll start on this soon," Y/N suggested. It didn't seem like much for them; after all, the doctor hadn't given them much work in the past few weeks.

"Hoho, there it is again! You're always so willing to help, Y/N," Eggman laughed, taking long strides through the halls as he spoke. Y/N refused to admit the pace was more than difficult to keep up with without breaking into a jog, but they weren't about to bring up the somewhat embarrassing height difference. "I must ask you something, Mx. Y/N."

"Yes, Doctor Eggman?"

"Hmph. You're quite formal...but that's for another day." He shifted from a stride to a much slower pace, making sure he was beside his assistant. "When I told you to stay in the room upstairs, you directly disobeyed my orders...something I've never seen you do before. It truly shocked me, you know." His tone took a much more serious approach, looking forward to make sure Orbot and Cubot were completely out of sight. Y/N had practically stopped in their tracks, looking up at the doctor with a slight guilt painted on their face. They put their hands behind their back and straightened their posture, making an effort to seem more confident with their answer.

"Well, Doctor," they began, "to be completely honest, I don't know what came over me. I suppose I was worried you were in danger."

"Did you not have faith that I would be able to handle the situation myself?"

"No! It wasn't like that at all!" Y/N put their hands up their chest in defense. "I could barely focus knowing that something might have gone wrong. If you remember, I did promise I was-"

"Here to help. Of course I remember," the doctor whispered. "I personally thought it was quite a bold, maybe even cliche statement, but you've been true to your word ever since. Your behavior today created a question that's been burning on my mind for hours." Eggman put a hand on their shoulder, giving it a soft squeeze. "Thank you for being so honest, my dear."

"Your..."

"My dear friend! My, you didn't even let me finish, hoho! I understand you're eager to get out of here. Come!" Eggman laughed, continuing to take quick strides towards the end of the hall, Y/N trying to casually catch up as much as possible. Humph. Nice save, Ivo. Amazing save, in fact. Let's just focus on getting them upstairs, then.
