Jamesons POV

I woke slowly, my entire bedroom consumed by darkness as the sky outside had turned to night and the room was colder than usual.

I was laying on my front in my own bed, lifting my head from my pillow to find the covers pulled up to my shoulders and the other half of the bed empty, with no signs that Charlie had been here.

I was confused, a little dissapointed because the entire time we had been mates eversince she finally accepted me entirely, we had never woken up together.

Either because I had pack business to do in the morning in regards to the advancing enemy and had no choice but to leave Charlie or because she was already wide awake off doing something.

I sighed, inhaling deeply and catching her sickly-sweet scent amoungst the pillows as I lay there but eventually my curiosity got the better of me and I felt a need to go find where my mate had wandered off too.

Calmly and quickly, I got out of bed to find that I was still entirely naked from mating with Charlie earlier so I slipped on a pair of sweats, not bothering with a shirt before quietly leaving my room.

As I rubbed any signs of sleep from my face as I walked down the hall, I realsied that the packhouse was surprisngly quiet...

Only a few lights were on and I wondered if that was Charlie who was quietly talking in the kitchen with... Jackson. Why was Jackson here this late?

I made it to the kitchen quickly only to realise that it wasn't Charlie that I head heard but the hushed voice of Kelli talking to Jackson at the dining table.

They'd just finished dinner and were talking amoungst themselves, stopping when Jackson saw me wander towards them.

"Sleep well?" He asked lightly, seeing my disheveled appearance.

I smiled, "Very well"

"Charlotte said you needed a good sleep, you were exhausted and far to stressed to be staying up all the time. We let you sleep for a while, Jackson and I already finished the patrols this afternoon" Kelli informed me, I raised my eyebrows at her.

"You met Charlie?" I asked, sounding surprised as I never thought she was the one to approach new people.

Its why I brought Kelli to the packhouse so I could bring her to Charlie and get them to know eachother better.

"Oh yes" Kelli giggled, a huge smile covering her face as she looked briefly to Jackson then back to me "She and I will be the best of friends, she doesn't talk much though..."

Jackson nodded "That's because you do enough talking for two" he joked before Kelli swatted him on the back of the head playfully.

"I like her James, she's very beautiful inside and out, but we didn't talk for long, she seemed to be in a bit of a hurry" Kelli said thoughtfully.

I was confused when Kelli said that, taking a seat across from Jackson and Kelli as she did.

"In a hurry?" I questioned, raising my eyebrow suspiciously to Jackson.

"She said she was heading out, visiting her friend or something. Charlotte said she wouldn't be too long and that she'll go straight there and back" he informed me with a shrug as if it were no big deal.

"I never said she could leave!" I snapped accusingly, thinking that with this war and all the danger that followed, he'd have the common sense to realise that I would never let Charlie go out on her own during a time like this.

"She said you did..." Jackson trailed off nervously, seeing my anger and annoyance.

Kelli quickly jumped in before I snapped again, "James, she's a tough girl, she'll be fine" she tried to assure me, anxiously tucking her wild red hair behind an ear.
