After a few days of walking, we arrived at a beautiful big house that looked like one of the giant mansions of the human world.
However, they weren't nearly as stunning as this place here.
The walls of the little palace were overgrown with ivy and rose vines, but the garden, on the other hand, was incredibly well-tended.
Lucien went through the gate and up the huge stone staircase to the entrance portal.
The building was so much larger on the inside than it appeared from the outside.
The furnishings looked expensive and elegant, but still comfortable.
Golden eyes, at least one, studied her as she, like a small child, with an open mouth and big eyes, observing every little detail in the room.
"Can we go on then?" Lucien asked with an amused look on his face.
It was really a pity that his beautiful face had been marred by scars.
She nodded to him and he led her through tastefully designed corridors to the door of a room.
Lucien knocked briefly and turned the ornate gold doorknob when a "come in" sounded.
He held the door open for her and she stuck her head in curiously.
It was a study.
In the middle of the large room was a massive oak desk, on which small pieces of paper, folders and letters were spread out and behind the desk, sat a man with long blond hair.
The redhead closed the door behind me.
"Sit down. No need to be so careful," the blonde smiled and pointed to one of the lime green velvet armchairs, which actually looked very comfortable.
When was the last time she sat in a chair like this?!
Never.
Never in her life had anyone asked her to sit on such a high quality chair.
She was never more than scum that nobody even let in their front yard.
"Thank you very much..", she mumbled and carefully sat down.
Lucien sat down in the chair next to her and gave her an encouraging smile.
"You're probably wondering why you're here," began the one who hadn't even managed to tell her his name until now.
How she hated that!
This man, in his unnaturally clean green tunic with gold stitching that accentuated his green eyes and blond hair tied half back, she had disliked from the first moment, while Lucien rather fascinated her.
"I would indeed be interested to know, since you sent an errand boy to snatch me from my usual territory and take me to some snazzy house, which only makes me feel dirtier!!" she burst out angrily.
"I-", he wanted to say something, but she was just getting going.
"I'll talk now! You haven't even managed, by the cauldron, to tell me your name or to ask for mine out of politeness!! Please! Even I, who grew up in the dirt in the forest, apparently have more decency than you, who furnished such a noble house!!", she shouted the words irritably across the table and he actually winced a little.
"Are you done now?" He rolled his eyes.
"You do realize that I could give another lecture just for your disrespectful eye roll, don't you?" she retorted provocatively.
"Well, my name is Tamlin. I sent Lucien because I have other commitments and he is my ambassador, not my errand boy.
Do you want to tell me your name now?", Tamlin grinned and she really had to stop herself from throwing up at his visage.
"Elea. And I am well aware that he is your ambassador. It still looks like you're pushing it. Period. And now the promised explanation please." Her tone didn't allow for any contradiction."So you're telling me that I'm the only one of any weird fae species that has fair hair and that's why some weird highlord is after me, because his father made the mistake of banishing me because he thought I was a danger to his court and the current highlord intends to use me as a weapon to subdue all other courts?! That's about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!", she laughed.
Tamlin and Lucien exchanged odd looks while she just alternately shot the two of them angry looks.
The latter finally got up and turned to her: "Come on, I'll take you to your room."
"Lucien, show our guest a little more respect," interjected Tamlin.
"It's okay! So, let's go?" She gave Tamlin a killer look and then smiled warmly at Lucien.
They chatted a bit on the way.
It was one of those conversations about totally mundane things that still felt so incredibly profound and freeing. And if our redhead Lucien was being honest with himself, he kind of liked Elea...
